Just curious, do any of you have any interest in learning a Native American language? If so, which one(s) ?
I'm interested in linguistics in general so while I don't specifically want to learn a language, I find it really interesting to read about them
Same opinion as Opheliac. As someone who likes linguistics, I find languages in general very interesting. =]
I basically can speak 3 languages somewhat fluently and am currently learning Cherokee since my grandmother was full blooded and I just feel the need to try to connect to that.
I do wanna learn new languages! I find every language unique in its own way and learning one is always exciting, allowing you to communicate with more people. Sadly, I'm only fluent in my mother tongue (Bulgarian) and English. We're taught Russian in school as well but I find it way too hard even though it's quite similar to Bulgarian. If you ever want to learn some Bulgarian, hit me up! Всичко най-добро. (All the best)
I love languages (also studying them ^^), and I plan on speaking as many languages as I can in the future. Right now I only speak 3, I can understand about 5 lanuages, but I would like to learn a native one. <3
I would love to learn more languages - any language, really! I currently speak two fluently, one I can understand and speak pretty well, and then there are just some basic words and sentences I know in 5 or so other languages. The main thing that's holding me back from learning and keeping up to date with a language is the fact that there is often not someone (a native speaker) you can speak and practise it with..
Learning languages can be lots of fun so maybe sometime in the future. Right now though I need to focus on sticking with my major and studying Japanese.
I'm interested in linguistics too. I guess I'd learn Massachusett because I'm from the area it was spoken in.
I'm currently learning Chinese at my school because it's a really nice language but I agree that all languages are wonderful in their own way and I want to learn sign language so I can talk to my brother, who's autistic.
I don't think a Native American language would be very useful for a Brit, but I suppose it could be interesting. I'm studying French at school which I really enjoy.
I'm really bad at learning languages, but that just makes my desire to learn a second language larger. I wish I was born into a family that speaks two, I know a kid at school who is fluent in English, French, and Portuguese and I'm super jealous of that. I think it'd be really interesting to learn a Native American language, especially since I believe a lot of them don't really have a writing system (I could be wrong about that if so please correct me)
Me too, which was funny because I was literally just thinking about making a topic asking which languages people knew! I can speak a bit of Japanese, German, and Spanish, although all three are at a pretty basic level for me. :icon_wink My favorite language to learn thus far has been Japanese.
