What is the gender of the thinking 'voice' in your head?

Sorry, this question itself isn't strictly related to gender identity and expression, but it seemed like the most appropriate place to post this, as I am asking this question out of curiosity to see if the answers are related to gender identity.

I've been wondering for some time about this. I know that people think in different ways, so some people will not even have a 'voice' in their head, but will think maybe in pictures instead. But for those who do have a narrative 'voice' - that voice you use to think things through, that pre-voices the things you want to say - does that voice have a gender, and if so does that gender correspond to the gender you identify with?

I asked my parents this, and my mother says her 'voice' is female, and my father says that his is male.
I am biologically female, but my thinking voice is male - incredibly deep and husky! I currently identify closest with gender fluid, and wonder whether this is a factor in why I feel 'male' a lot of the time?

I am just interested to see how this works for other people, and whether the gender of their internal thinking 'voice' corresponds to their gender identity.

The voice I think in is just my voice. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: So, if we're being technical, it's a male voice that sounds like a female voice.

Ah okay  So if your actual voice changed in pitch or tone, then your thinking voice would too I'm supposing?

I think my "thinking voice" is pretty neutral. I wouldn't say it's male or female.

I haven't started T or anything, so right now when I'm trying to pass I talk louder and from the chest (something I have to really concentrate to do), which makes my voice come across deeper - my thinking voice doesn't sound like that though. It reflects my natural voice, which is very quiet and at a pitch that's just-about too high to be androgynous. I don't know if my thinking voice would change if/when I start T and my voice deepens, but now I'm interested to find out.

It's always been male. When I was little, I used to pretend that voice was some sort of spirit guiding me, but now I just see it as myself. XD

Interesting question! I have more than one. Not all of them are me. I mean, they are, but sometimes they're the voices of my parents or my partner or certain friends even if they're just telling me my ideas in those voices. And for me, I have more than one as well. My basic internal narration is gender neutral, I think. I don't "hear" it as particularly male or female. Then sometimes when I'm in a more upbeat mood or feeling kind of girlier, it does take on a gendered tone and tends to be like... I don't know... more "squee." Other times it's super logical and unemotional about everything and then it's genderless again.

Oh, and if I'm in a sour mood it's like some really mean horrible old grandma.

It's usually androgynous but sometimes is male or female.

Male. And it does sound like mine, least in cadence and stuff, but deeper.

Interesting. I had never directly thought of this until I read the initial posting.

I would have to say that mine changes. Sometime it's my mother or grandmother and at other times it's my father. Not exactly sure why this is, but my guess is that it has something to do with the topic. Stereotypically, it might be the difference between thinking and planning as compared to intuition and relationships.

Neutral though sometimes it turns masculine.

Mine has always been male but sounds pretty much like how I want it to sound. Unless I've been watching PBG or JonTron, then it just has their voices. I'm, like, half crushing on JonTron...

I guess it's genderfluid. The voice changes.

Female. But it's not the same female voice all the time; it's a few different female voices.

It's just my (female sounding) voice without the minor speech impediment.

If I'm thinking to myself, then it's is usually neutral, but when I read and I know the gender of the author/writer, then my thinking voice will be in that gender.

It basically just sounds like whatever my actual voice is sounding like at the time. If I talk really deep, then the voice in my head will be deep as well. But actually, sometimes if I've been watching a movie or a you tube channel, then my voice in my head will be one of the people from the movie's voice :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: it's weird, and really annoying :frowning2:
