Hi everyone! I am writing to share my most recent coming out, because it is a positive story, so maybe it can give someone hope. Reading others' stories on EC has definitely inspired me and given me courage!!!(&&&) These were the last group of friends I needed to come out to. It was a group of girls, some of whom I know better than others. One friend in the group is someone I am close to, so she knew, but no one else did. So, finally my friend and I made a plan that I would tell everyone casually by just slipping the correct pronoun into conversation if it was appropriate. So tonight all the girls were talking about online dating and their stories from it, and I mentioned that I didn't have any horror stories so far, and my friend said, "yeah, just disappointment," and so I said, "yeah, she didn't like me." (because most recently I went on a few dates with a girl who didn't like me back). It was hilarious what people's reactions where. Some people I think got it right away, but others didn't. So quite a few minutes went by and then the girl sitting next to me said really loudly "WAIT, YOU'RE A LESBIAN?!! Oh, that's cool." It was hilarious. Another girl said she never would have thought I was gay (to general murmurings of agreement, because I dress kind of on the femme side, I guess?). And another girl was like, oh I thought you just made a mistake with your pronoun! Anyway, it was really funny because people were so surprised and so the whole "I'm going to mention this casually and not make a big deal out of it" thing kind of back-fired, but also it was really great because no one cared at all. So I feel really great! (!) I don't have to hide from any of my friends anymore! I can just be myself. :icon_bigg
Congrats! Now your friends will try to hook you up with cute ladies because that's what friends are for Next step is your family!!
This is really a good story! I am happy for you! It sounds like a lot of fun doing it that way. Not making it a big deal and making it kind of funny! Cool!
