It's nice to see some representation in such a high profile event. It's even more nice that the t in lgbt didn't get ignored in verbal or physical representation this year! Way better than Russia!

Nice to see athletes being able to be out and safe in sports. And the USWNT for soccer...love them.

I read the full list. Is it just me, or is it like 85% women?

Is it because women's locker rooms are more accepting, women are more likely to be open about it in general, or are lesbians just more likely to play sports than gay men?

I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't the number of all of the LGBT athletes especially males. Lesbianism is fetishized more but I hope there is enough room for more males to come out too. Come out to me! Come out to me! Boom, clap!(She said "come on to me" but still)

(And I'm aware there are countries that are bigoted towards lesbians too. I never want to come across like I'm saying lesbians don't have it rough either. Much love to them)

I'm perfectly sure this isn't the full list. I'm sure there's plenty of closeted queer athletes of all genders, and it would be pretty evenly split if everyone was out. It was just a thought I had that I figured could generate some discussion.

I'm sure there are still plenty of closeted folk in the bunch too. As for why, men certainly face stigma in sports, but I don't have a very good guage on women in this. I only have one lesbian friend involved in sports, and she seems to do fine, but that's a really small sample size.

There's also not a lot of good to come out of Marlowe's mouth on the subject, but his successes are rarely reported. Has anyone heard him correctly refer to an athlete's identity/orientation yet?

That's really awesome. This is positive to hear.Hopefully it will give more people the courage to come out.

I sometimes wonder about that too...take soccer for example..if a male soccer player was gay it could be the end of his career with female soccer players it is kinda expected that a lot of them are gay....

That's fine I feel the same. It's entirely up to the athlete if they wanna come out but I feel bad when people feel forced in the closet. Can't be good for the psyche.

That is true. It seems some people even in developed and more tolerant countries see gay men as 'less man' but the same thing is not said about gay women.
