The Pope? More like the NOPE amiright?

But seriously, this is thoroughly unsurprising. In a way, I'm glad he said it, as its another bit of proof that so-called progressive Pope Francis is no far cry from the legacy he's following.

Are we surprised by this? The Cath Church only admitted that the world isn't physically flat in 1985, folks.

Why would anyone care (especially here) what some old fart said ?
If a parent is so stupid to be influenced by words of papa francis therefor doing considerable harm to said child's psiché, the parent was already in the wrong by default
the pope says this because people expect him to
    thats why he's the pope
there would be an uproar in christian faith if francis said y'all dudes can fuck like willy nilly no double hot sticks in the end
    its all good
    so he wont

    Very true .

I wouldn't take something seriously that is said by someone who believes in an imaginary sky wizard.

This is a dumb, dumb, DUMB statement. Not only does it show how closeminded religious people can be, but it also shows that anyone struggling with their gender identity is easily persecuted, and discriminated against.

He is allowed to have his opinion. His opinions are much better than other popes.

My opinion is that religion is a giant scam.

Yeah I always got the feeling that the Pope wasn't really as great as he tried to make himself appear...

Some of the members here claim this as their faith. The use of words like sky wizard and old fart aren't really appropriate. I see that what he said might be insensitive and not fully in tune with the situation. For that matter, most of the Protestant religions have similar views, as do Abrahamic religions in general. A person can shut out the parts they don't like, and belong, and many people go about it this way, or choose not to be a part of an organized religion.

If someone is willing to link the full article or story, that would be helpful.

Sky wizard..? Was that meant to be a insulting term to God? Frankly it's hilarious :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: however it is insulting or may be to some. The Pope is entitled to his own opinion however his opinion does not reflect anyone elses besides his own. Furthermore this is the Pope speaking, not God(Or Sky wizard for you cheeky folk). (CHRISTIAN OPINION)To many people the Pope is just an idol, and hence ignored.

Your outlook on this is good. Yes, it is insulting and it is funny at the same time, but it also carried an air of contempt.

You are correct in that the Pope is a figurehead and, for better or worse, those under his governance don't cross their t's and dot their i's the same way he does, and that goes for other prominent people in the Catholic church. During a sermon, one bishop or archbishop in Ireland supposedly mentioned that all the cafeteria Catholics might not as well even show up. That's idiotic. That means losing at least 90% of the audience.

Really, why should anybody care about a dude who believes in a sky wizard? Yes, I like this term. If you don't like it I kindly ask you to respect my religion of the sacred flying cookie monster from mars who likes to be worshipped with loud music (metal or similar only) in the middle of the night. But not Metallica. The head of cookie monster church just declared that Metallica is hip hop snd therefore strictly forbidden. -> religious logic shouldn't be taken seriously.

Heathen!! Pre-Black Album Metallica must be given utter reverence!

The Black Album on was written by heretics though.

    (sorry I couldn't resist)

On point: this pope is one of the more liberal ever, but obviously they still have a ways to go at the Vatican to reach our ideal.

@Browncoat: Well I heard before that he said that hitting children is okay, so I don't like him anyway.

Who actually chooses gender, though? I'm MTF, and I was born this way. My gender was never a choice, but the label "transgender" and my gender expression were chosen by me.

Those who are nonbinary have tough lives, and they would never choose to have tough lives. The only things they choose are labels for themselves. Some might call themselves neutral, and others may call themselves agender or even bigender.

I don't want children to be taught that gender is a choice. It's terrible, but not as the pope says. Instead, they should be taught that it's okay not to be cisgender.

^ that's pretty much the way I see it.

He just doesn't understand that not attempting to be a clone of everyone else and instead being yourself isn't a "choice" just like the same types make being gay out to be.

Honestly though, one thing is a choice: being judgmental.

I think it's terrible that he's still not willing to deal with the rape cases. We've been saying it like a slogan for quite a while, "IT'S. NOT. A. CHOICE."
