So, my dad is taking me to get my driver's license tomorrow and I'm sooo nervous. I may or may not have to take the road test depending on whether I get a spot check. So if I have to take the test, does anyone have any advice on how to pass? Commonly made mistakes?

    Thanks. orz

I just got my license on Monday (my second time taking the drive test bec I failed it the first time) and my best advice is stay calm and do everything just like you normally would when you are driving. Also, its no big deal if you have to retake it. Remember to do traffic checks (look right and left before you go through a stop light, even if its green) cuz you can lose a lot of points for not doing that.

(note: all based on where I live, but I can't imagine it would be SUPER different in other places ???)

Hope you see this before tomorrow. First is be calm and try to stay focused on the test.

Leave your cellphone with your dad. Just don't have it with you.
Put your seat belt on before you start the car. Don't start the car until the tester puts their belt on.
Make sure the mirrors are adjusted so you can see out them comfortably.
Turn the radio off, so you can hear the tester better.
Make sure to look both ways at all intersections even if the light is green.
Keep a larger gap between you and the car in front of you than you think you need. 3 seconds is suggested, but 4 is better.
Stop so you can see where the rear wheels of the car in front of you touch the pavement.
Check your mirrors. About every 10 seconds or so.

If you do not understand a question or one of their instructions let them know. Or ask them for clarification. They know you are going to be nervous so don't be afraid to ask them questions if you are not sure.

One of the common mistakes is failure to check the blind spots when starting to drive, turning etc.

Wish you all the best for your driving test. Hope to hear good news from you! (*hug*)

    Guys, I got my license~! ^.^

Luckily I didn't get a spot check. Whether you have to take the road test depends on what day you were born, and I was born the day before spot check day, so I didn't have to take it. Good thing I wasn't born four hours later! ^.^

Thanks for all your advice; it really helped me feel more prepared. (*hug*)

Congrats! Did you not have to take any tests at all? We have a theory and then a road test to pass (both which you have to pay crazy money for ) before you get your licence.

Wow, that sounds kind of dangerous to not have to take a road test. I'm in my 20's (late driver for personal reasons), got a permit from a written test, and have to practice driving by parents' instructions. I have to take an actual road test to get my liscence but they won't even allow that until I've driven for a few months first.

I took a road test with my instructor at school. You get a paper signed by your school's driving instructor after you pass, and then you have two years to get in fifty hours of driving before going to get your license. ^^ There was a written test, too, to get my permit. It does still cost a lot of money.

The school instructors tend to go easier on you, so it's much better to take the test in school! Only about 5% fail my school's road test. ^^

I took one at school. ^^ Almost two years ago, though. I've gotten fifty hours of practice, too.

No, I don't think you misread; I guess I didn't mention the school lessons. ^^

Thanks! I'll do my best. (*hug*)

First of all congratulations. Its your first step towards adult hood. Stop now, adulthood isn't all that awesome. lol

Most states have different laws when it comes to driver's licences. Unless you are going for commercial, then it is a federal mandated thing. When I first got my license, the driver's ed course in school only got you cheaper insurance. You had to take a written test and a road test. I think now its a graduated license, so many hours on the permit. Can't drive at night or with more than a single passenger....

I don't wanna be an adult anyway.

I had both a written test and a road test with the school. In my class, everybody passed both. ^^ We can drive with multiple passengers, and we're required to get some night driving.
