My cousin was told he only has a short period of time to live due to a heart condition he was born with, but have any of you met/or was someone in a similar situation and beat the odds and survived?

Back in 1993, when my grandfather received a pacemaker, he was told that they didn't expect him to live to see the turn of the millennium. However, he's still chugging along at 82 years old.

not personally but there are a lot of famous historical cases of this. On the other hand I have known people struck down by something so fast there was no time to even tell them they x amount of time to live.

The take away? appreciate your life. a prediction is just a prediction but being aware of death makes us realize we should not be wasting life.

Honestly how many of us complain about not having enough time but wasting so much of it?

An old modern studies teacher who used to work at my school. He got cancer and was told he only had a few months/ up to a year left to live at the most. He lived on for over ten years and recently died this year. But he still lived way past what was expected.

Yep, my grandma's kidney's failed in 1999, had to start dialysis. No one thought she would outlive my grandpa, but here she is, 2016 and still going. She's my last living grandparent.

One of my friends has cystic fibrosis, but luckily they caught it early because he was born in one of only three states that screens for it at birth. He's 17 now and a lot healthier than he probably should be at this point-- but I have no idea if he'll live beyond the life expectancy of 40.

My grandfather had permanent damage from pneumonia and moved South because he was told the heat/humidity might help him "live a few more years". That was more than 30 years ago. He don't care.

Ugh, it's scary to hear something like that. :dead:

At a nursing home type facility I used to work at I knew one lady who wasn't supposed to live past age 10, but she made it to 55. She was born with severe intellectual and physical impairments.

Yes..ME!!!!...I was informed by doctors that I was not going survive emergency surgery. In fact, they even contacted my family to say their last goodbyes. Its been 10 years since I was given that information and I am still going strong.
