As those of you who've been paying attention to my babbles know, I've been in the process of shopping for therapy. An endless process, or so it seems, and a process of endless frustration.

Well, the search is over. I found another name Sat. when frustration with the therapist under consideration then drove me to yet another search. I got in contact by e-mail, and had a chance for a phone consultation earlier

The phone call impressed me. It was surprisingly lengthy--I'd viewed it as 10/15 minutes to just get a sense of whether I could work with him. But it lasted more than half an hour, and he seemed genuinely interested in learning about me.

And he was incredibly patient answering stupid questions about various issues (like one insurance question). So unlike the feeling I got (maybe unintentionally) from one other therapist whom I won't name because A) it could disclose my Undisclosed Area, and B) with at $120/hour, he could afford a really good lawyer to sic on me.

Needless to say, I set an appointment for next week.

Of course, it will be a while before we whether he'll be a good match for what I need on the therapy front. But I like the fact that I feel comfortable talking with him, and he's an excellent listener, and this alone has me feeling like I've won the "find a therapist" lottery.

That's really great!! Happy for you! I felt the same when I met my current therapist. She's really cool, and kind, and seemingly strikes a perfect balance with timid little me between letting me vent and pushing me forward in a positive direction.

Nice! If you felt that good about the phone call that's a really good sign!

Congratulations! That's what you need in a good therapist, someone who makes you feel comfortable and truly listens.

This is awesome news. The other one sounded, frankly, like somebody I wouldn't go to under any circumstances... way too many red flags. The experience you had is what it is *supposed* to be like, so hopefully this is the start of a good therapeutic relationship.

Excellent! That's how I felt when I found my current psychiatrist. It took a while of searching but I knew when I found him he was the right one.

    Thanks, everyone!

And you made comments about this on one of my other threads, which I really, really appreciated. Having people who know something about therapy, and talk about red flags like that, helps me take the alarm bells I was hearing in my head seriously. It's too easy to say to myself: "You're just overreacting!" But hearing others say they didn't like what they were hearing helped give me that big push to find someone other than that other therapist.
