I think this is definitely a great step forward for nonbinary individuals in the United States.

This is awesome! I'm so happy! We need more support for nonbinary people, and legal recognition is an important historical step to get the ball rolling.

My jaw's still dropped. Incredible and I can only hope more states will follow. It does make me super proud to be an Oregonian though

Gosh this makes me want to move to Oregon ^^

And I really like how the news reporter used the word "their", acknowledging Mx. Shupe as the gender they identify as (or rather, the lack thereof)

    I don't really get this.

Identity documents do not show gender, they show sex?

And regardless of how we identify, surely at least some documents or records do ultimately have to show our biological sex? I don't think we can really eliminate sex as a classification.

For example, it is needed to ensure biological females receive female driven medical tests and vaccination drives like PAP smears and HPV jabs.

Or ensuring trans women are still included in testing for prostate cancer, or that trans men who have not had an oopherectomy don't slip through the net with ovarian cancer.

Number guy (no offence, just hard to write): Yeah, sex is mostly inescapable, but that doesn't mean that one's legal gender has to be m/f. As long as the doctors know, and obviously they will, there's no problem.

Great for them/her/sorry IDK preferred pronoun! And great for the US.

Yet another reason why I'd love to move there in the future. The state's about the closest thing to a trans bastion that the U.S. has.
