Hi everyone, I found out earlier today, that, the average person reads 6 books per year. At the start of the year, I set myself a reading challenge of 10 books for the year (I know, not many, but it keeps me reading), and as I was pulling books off of my bookshelf, I noticed that I'd already read almost 3x that amount. I've read 28 books this year, including two poetry collections and a few plays, but they count as books. We're not even halfway through the year and I'd say I'd be able to complete the 52 book challenge by the October if I read two books a week. Would you say you're about the same as the average reader and read about 6 books, or have you already read way more? How many books have you read this year?
In 2016 I've read about 5/6 already. I used to be a really avid reader and would probably be reading about 100 books a year, I can finish a 400 page book in 1-2 days, but I don't have the time for that anymore.
I read maybe four books a year, for school. I don't read for entertainment (or at least not very often).
Prior to college I was a pretty avid reader. Life caught up and I don't find as much time to read anymore
Ha, that would make me the opposite? I read more than anyone else in my immediate family or circle of friends. Also one of the only folks in the library scanning aisles rather than hopping onto a computer for hours.
I reread books a LOT. When I like a book I will read it over and over. I can't remember how many new books I've read this year but it's probably around 10 or so. But I read books again all the time, when I'm free.
Oh I read much more. I've already read six books just in May and 30 so far this year. Reading is kind of my thing.
Only 6? I read way more, and each book I read is anywhere from 400 (a light read) to 800 (my average) pages long. I can't imagine a life where I don't give up at least an hour to day to read. My cousin only reads 4 or 5 books a year, but that's mostly because working and going to the gym takes up most of his time. Also his books average between 800-1000 page books.
Yep, I'm half way through number 29 and should be reading number 30 or 31 by this time next week. ---------- Post added 22nd May 2016 at 02:40 PM ---------- Books that are more than 600 pages long are my downfall, but the top end of my reading scale is usually somewhere between 400-500. I don't like to spend too much time on the one book, because in the time I've reading an 800 page, I could've read two or three more. The longest book I've read, though, is just under 900 pages.
I used to read a lot of books. In 2015 I reached a total of 89 books. This year, however, I haven't had a lot of time to read yet because I've been so busy.. so I've only read 3 so far. Perhaps this summer
Reading is one of my favorite hobbies, I love it so much. I think it's kind of sad that people only read an average of 6 books, but I guess that's cause most people don't like to read ?
I do read a lot, but this year I'm only on about four books because I have my A-level in English Literature soon so I've been re-reading the same three books over and over again.
I used to read 1 book every 2/3 weeks and every week or less during holidays or if I was really into it. Now I read like 2 books a year, its sad as fuck and I need to fix it. Tbh 6 is way more than I'd expect frfrom most people.
I rarely read fewer than one book per week, and I try to keep a ratio of one published book for every three books I read. I don't like to read more than one book at a time, though.
I will usually read three or four books a month. Some months I read more than that - depending on how busy I get with things. There are some weekends, where I'll just sit in my facourite chair and read letting the outside world just pass by. After having read a blog by author Ann Morgan, who read 196 books (one book from each country in the world) in one year, I set myself the goal of trying it out too. I might try it next year.
