...I am workingo n the outline for the coming out support group and I need name ideas. I would like to bring a few ideas forward at the next pride meeting.

I was thinking something anonymous sounding like an acronym.

Here is my outline so far, I would love some feedback and ideas!

this will be emailed to my local pride society board members, and hopefully added to the upcoming meeting agenda.

    Looks really good.

    Meeting Format
    approximately 2 hrs
    Welcome, announcements(if any), possibly tea/coffee/cookies – 15 min.
    Sharing – 45 min.
    Questions, discussion – 60min.

    One quick suggestion, though.
' possibly tea/coffee/cookies – this should be at the end, or you will never get people to sit down and stop socializing. Also, if possible try to get a room that you can keep longer than the time of the group, so that people can linger if they want....

    Terrific idea all around.

This is awesome!!! So proud of you for doing this!

I'm also starting s support group, and one suggestion I have (based on advice from the woman who runs groups in my local LGBT centre)- the name. I think it may be better to have a name that is very clear in terms of who/what the group is for, rather than something catchy. I say that because someone who is looking for a group might back off if they're not reallysure it's a group intended for them. Something simple like LGBTQ Coming Out Support group or something you feel fits the group's goals best.

This is such a great idea, it's such an invaluable source of support you're starting.

I like both suggestions, thanks! I liked the acronym idea because it can be both obvious and subtle. If course, for advertising it needs to be specific or people who need the service won't be able to find it.

How about Ready to Embrace Authentic Living = REAL

I thought about REVEAL but couldn't think of anything for V and E. lol

It sounds like a really awesome idea, though! Good luck!

So, motion to support my idea was passed, still not sure on s name and the possibility for funding for a safe space is there. We will be talking to the middle schools and high schools about a lunch hour support group meat got kids who don't want to, or can't tell thier parents that they are going to such a support group. All in all it was a very positive discussion and at the next meeting I'll have dates and more details so we can provide the information at pride this year. I'm excited!!

Oh, and Fenestra, people like your suggestion of calling it Get R.E.A.L. ready to embrace authentic living. We may end up going with that one!
