This was my thought as well. I think that there are a lot of better things for people to worry about.

I find this particularly amusing since according to several sources, more online porn is consumed in Utah than in any other state. So much for the pious, Godly Mormons.

My guess is if this governor gets anywhere with this, there will probably be an (anonymous, in the shadows) uprising and a call for impeachment from the good citizens (and porn consumers) of Utah.

Welp, let them have that, and take away all of their porn for a while, and see what happen. I imagine an underground network of porn will appear quickly.

The article doesn't say what they plan on doing about this "public health crisis", other than computer tech's being required to report child porn if they find it. The people behind this also don't define what they think porn is either. I have a straight female acquaintance who likes to watch that Starz series Outlander. There's nudity and simulated sexual situations in it, but then I've seen something almost similar when I was channel surfing in the afternoon, and saw a network soap opera on. Many regular network shows have partial nudity and simulated sex scenes. The only difference between them and X rated is that they don't show actual genitals touching. If nudity is porn, is Star Wars Return of the Jedi porn because a breast was briefly exposed? It so far sounds like more politicians pretending to pander to a certain segment of their constituents, without actually doing anything.

What is it about fundamentalists and treating adults like children incapable of making decisions for themselves?

There are some reasons to be concerned about porn (e.g., porn modelling unsafe behavior, unrealistic bodily expectations), but states with higher rates of high-speed Internet access tend to have lower levels of rape. This negative correlation, although it doesn't prove causation, suggests that porn may be good for society by reducing sexual assault.

Utah is the state in the USA that views the most porn.

There are numerous other things the State should be concerned with which are exponentially more important than what people do in the privacy of their homes. Truly, if a person watches pornography to the point where it interferes with their life, then of course it's a threat to their health -- their mental health. However, the occasional viewing of pornographic content hardly poses any health risk, especially not one which should prompt a state intervention.

I think porn is the least of Utah's worries.

My opinion on porn is: If you don't like it - then don't watch it!

Sorry if I missed it in the article but I could've sworn Utah is the biggest consumer of porn in the nation. Don't get me wrong as long as adults agree to it legally cool even I watch it a bit. Problem being it stops you from doing your daily needs which could be any hobby turned to an addiction.

Some people like explicit videos to get off on better than blue balls. We've come(ha!) a long way since cave drawings and then paintings.

Pornography, in its current state, is damaging.

It damages the people who are coerced to participate in it - many of whom feel like they have little choice but to do porn or face destitution. They may also face risk of sexually transmitted diseases including deadly diseases such as HIV.
And it damages the perception of our young people as to the role of women in sex - showing women in degrading and submissive roles in a disproportionate amount of videos.
