I'm the sort of person who can watch something as homophobic as Borat and still laugh like anything. I mean, I laugh at the homophobic bits. Anyone else like that?

If i realize it is being done as humor (humor by humor), then i see no problem with it (i love Borat!).

For example, if i know someone is homophobic, and that person creates a movie with the clear intention to mock gays, then i wouldn't like it, and i would be totally against it.

However, when an humorist (like Sacha Baron Cohen) does that for the sake of humor (and social critic, because Borat is a movie we can analyze, and not only laugh), i don't have anything against it.

If I took offense at everything which pokes fun at someone else, be it homophobic or whatever, I'd never laugh again. I have no problem with people making fun of me, my beliefs, my politics, my appearance or anything, providing they are capable of making fun of themselves, or accept that others may also make fun of them in a humorous manner.

I don't take offensive very easily. A lot of times jokes like that are funny, and there's really no point in being too serious about it.

Well, it would be really depending on the joke and who said it.

The point is, it's a joke. I do not take offense at any kind of humour.

Now of course there's a line when someone is being derisive or derogatory as in heated conversation, but I don't think that's what you mean.

If it's a joke, I'll take it that way- I find "offensive" humor funny. However when jokes like that are said in an attempt to hurt someone's feelings instead of making someone laugh, that's not okay.

That's true. Sometimes they are just jokes, no offending anyone.

I think the answer is "it depends".

Bruno for example I think it horrifically offensive, and pretty much a gay "blackface". When you look at it, it is about a straight audience laughing at gay people and in doing so reinforcing gay stereotypes.

As a contrast I recently I watched the two Jump Street films, and absolutely loved them (aside from the crude genital mutilation humor which is pretty unnecessary). Here the humor is clearly rooted in homophobia (as the references to the straight characters "bromance" as an actual relationship simply wouldn't work as comedy with a male/female duo, nor in a society without homophobia being taboo...the joke is wholly that they are two straight guys acting like a gay couple) BUT it is done in a warm hearted manner and the joke is always on the obliviousness of the two characters to the innuendo, never actual gay people. Plus you do have a little section in 22 Jump Street where Channing Tatum's jock character does stand up for gay rights.

Similarly I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry - not perfect in that it does still stereotype, but the overall message of acceptance and overcoming homophobia does redeem it as a comedy.

If it's a joke there's no reason to be offended.

No, but I comment on them saying that I am... is that bad?

It depends on the joke, but most of the time, no I don't. Some of those jokes carry some truth in them anyway.

No. I love edgy humor or art in general (comedy, film, music etc) but having said that there are a few comedians I don't find funny and their "humor" is too angry/off beat for me like Kat Williams...

Not really, no. It's kinda hard for me to determine what gets under my skin. But not much does.

I don't get offended easily, and as a lot of jokes centre around making fun of someone, one can't exactly get offended at everything. Usually it's just a bit of fun.

Nothing offends me. I see being offended as little more than a wine about something someone doesn't like.

    Happy days

    Same,

    ---------- Post added 5th Apr 2016 at 06:44 PM ----------

Not that I know of, I do it myself just to annoy people. My friends sometimes understand me and sometimes don't.

I think it depends on who is doing it and on if it's friendly or milisious
