If you like powerful female vocalists, she has always been my go-to, and her lyrics are wonderful

As previously stated, The Killers are flipping awesome. I've only just discovered them but they are fantastic. My personal favorite songs of theirs at the moment are Mr Brightside, Miss Atomic Bomb, All These Things That I've Done, Somebody Told Me and Human. Some other songs I've had stuck on repeat recently include: Salt by Bad Suns Riptide by Vance Joy (I also recommend the music video - it's funny and creepy as hell at the same time) The entire M3LL155X (Mellissa) EP by FKA Twigs (the music video for it is also stunning) You Know You Like It by DJ Snake and AlunaGeorge Blue Jeans by Lana Del Rey Closer by Tegan and Sara Like A Friend by Pulp (another one of my favorite bands of all time) Bones by Radiohead (yet another one of my favorite bands of all time - they're very famous but I feel this song is quite underrated)
