For anyone who has that day-to-day repetitive work routine, do you allow yourself to go into autopilot and drift off?

If so, what do you think about when you're drifting off? Do you perhaps replay favourite movie scenes in your head, or think about what you're going to make when you get home, or dream about a vacation perhaps.....or perhaps some other stuff that belongs in another section if you get the jist ...

My mind is constantly adrift. Usually listening to music in my head, or thinking about things I need to do still to kinda move my life forward.

Yes! Part of the reason I'm on here..while I'm at work. usually I just daydream or I'll think about what I need to do when I go on break. Since I work from home everything is right here if I need to prep something for lunch or dinner or if I need to call someone etc.

I'm almost always distracted with thoughts about new story/poem ideas or anything else. I keep a word document saved on my desktop which I use to write them down in so that I can get back to focusing on my work. In the occasions that I don't have the opportunity to use my laptop, I have a journal I always carry with me in my backpack which I use.

I find this a really good way to keep my thoughts with me and also to not have my mind run away with them all the time.

Yes, I tend to write good extracts for stories so I write them down in class, looks like I'm doing work as well

    I usually have several things going through my mind at once XD;;;;

My job involves a TON of repetition, so I usually find my mind drifting while I'm doing songs with my students XD;;; They're so mindless and I've been doing my favorite ones for several years now, so I have all the motions and lyrics down~

I heard our minds go on autopilot quite often, especially when doing the same things every day (driving the same path to work, typing the same form emails, singing the same songs, haha) because our mind needs time to defragment, just like a computer does ^.^

Absolutely! Whenever I stop consciously concentrating on work, I would always start thinking about things other than work. I have to then pull myself back into doing the work that I was assigned to do, but some time down the line I would again find myself thinking about what to do in life (a whole array of things like when to transition, what to have for dinner, what plans do I have for the weekend, when should I come out, do I force myself into denial again cos none of this is going to work, how did my football team do last weekend, etc etc etc)

When the time comes at the end of the day, my mind starts to drift a bit from the stress of the day, or if I have insufficient amounts of sleep. Currently, I'm tired as all heck and I'm going over things for education purposes. My mind's really drifting right now.

My mind drifts when I do anything. Especially while working; that's why I keep a small notebook with me at all times. Never know what ideas will come to me when my mind wanders.

(sings to the tune of The Jacksons ABC) ADD! Thats what keeps distracting me!

My job routinely has me reading the same questions off the computer screen to the customers that I literally dont even need to read off the screen. I can rattle off the same questions in my sleep (which I have if my dream takes place at work). Most of the time Im multitasking by putting paperwork together while reading the questions. Its during this time I usually daydream of myself being snuggled in my nice warm bed.

When I worked a job watering plants, my mind would consistently drift off to my trans status, how I would come out to my family, how they may react, what I would do... And other future plans. This was when I was utterly obsessed with the whole gender identity issue - couldn't think about anything else, ever.

I think I've gotten a bit more stable now, though.

When I'm at my desk then yes.. My mind will tend to drift off. I remember a month back we had gotten a complaint by American customers because our products were denied at the Mexican border. The second load of paperwork that was supposed to be there was under my folders on my desk, I nearly lost my job that week. Other than that, when I'm on the work floor I'm fine whereas when I'm at my desk I tend to let my mind wander off. Hehe

My mind tends to play music when I'm performing repetitive autopilot tasks. Although, now it's Christmas time in our store, looks like I'll have to sacrifice my internal playlist for the real festive playlist coming in through my ears.

We'll see how long it takes before I get sick even of 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'...

You should of left it at "does your mind drift?", because it doesn't matter where I am - my mind ALWAYS drifts, and often in the most inappropriate of situations.

For some reason, I always think about potential arguments, conversations, or my mind goes into hopeless-romantic mode and I start to daydream about people around me.

Nice as it is to drift off and daydream, I don't think it would be a good idea for me to do that at work. My job is safety critical and I could end up killing people.

Work? What is this word, 'work'?

Oh, never-mind...it's where I am now!

So yes, it's basically a non-stop drift, here.

I work in retail so I'm usually on my feet.. not much time for my mind to drift, or at least, I find it hard to drift off if I'm not sitting down.

My mind can drift away sometimes if it's late in the evening, I'm on checkouts and there are no customers, but in that scenario I usually end up talking to one of my colleagues until someone turns up.
