Three times, with the father of my oldest child, my husband, and now my girlfriend. Of course, the first two started during high school/young adulthood; this is the first time I've been in love after a 19 year marriage. It's amazing to be experiencing it all over again.

Three times. Is there room in life for more?

You know, once, I think. With my trigger. Though I'm not sure it was truly love as it wasn't reciprocated. So maybe never. How depressing!

I too thought I knew what it was to be in love but when I met someone last summer I realized I had never felt that way before. I was very much in love with her

Do you think that it's impossible then to be in love with someone and behave selfishly, causing them hurt?

Once in my late teens. It was awesome and horrible at the same time. All the guys in our class had a crush on her, but she was into me. I really couldn't wrap my head around it.

Nothing came of it because of the low self-esteem I had at the time, plus my internalized homophobia AND the homophobia intrinsic to the environment we were part of at the time. She made a move on me a few times, but I was just paralyzed and terrified she'd find out I had feelings for her. I was so scared of being gay, but also felt it was all too good to be true.

Then she found a man, got married and had a bunch of kids. Now she lives far, far away.

I will always wish the very best for her and I hope she's truly happy. I wonder if she knows I'm out of the closet and if she ever thinks "what if".

I'll fall in love again though. Even if I don't, I can live for believing that I will. Hah! Romantic soul is I.

I've loved twice, but I've only been truly in love once. I'd love to experience that feeling again one day though!

I've been in love with four people, three women and one man. I'm still in love with three of them... one man and two women. Where are they now? Still in my life as special, good and good-for-me friends. If I had to pick one, I honestly don't know which one I would pick.

Sound complicated? It's one reason I'm single and celibate. I can now love all three at the same time.

When I'm in love, I just know it, and it lasts forever unless the other person is cruel and mean over a period of many years.

I was helplessly scrolling, reading answers and wondering how to quantify the experience, but then I read this:

This makes sense, I can use that. So my answer is 3.
