No the reason diamonds are so highly valued is because the diamond trade is basically controlled by the DeBiers company, who artificially inflates the value of diamonds and helped encourage its cultural status through aggressive marketing. There's a video online- think by the same guy who does Adam Ruins Everything.

Anyway... Conspiracy theories. Gah. I was with a guy who believed 9/11 was an inside job and knew a homeless guy who honest to god thought the Illumanati ruled everyone with brain busting chemtrails. Just annoys the crap out of me.

I saw a documentary on TWA flight 800 that was pretty convincing. I think I actually find the missile explanation more plausible than the official story of a short circuit igniting the fuel tank.

I believe it is extremely naive to reject all conspiracy theories out of hand. Conspiracies happen at all levels - it could be a group of people conspiring to rob a bank or commit fraud; conspiracies could involve larger criminal groups such as gangs or the mafia; conspiracies can happen at the level of law enforcement; and yes, conspiracies can occur within the higher levels of government. When a plausible conspiracy theory is proven true by way of evidence, we don't refer to it as a conspiracy. We call it an "affair" or "something-gate" (e.g. Watergate, Iran-Contra Affair). But that doesn't change the fact that government conspiracies have occurred in the past and in all likelihood still happen. We like to make fun of the nutjobs with the tin foil hats that say the government is spying on us. Well, in the wake of the revelations made by Ed Snowden, it turns out that those nutjobs were right. But it took a whistle-blower, who was willing to face exile and imprisonment, to make that information on government surveillance public. I find it to be probable that there are other conspiracies which we know nothing about simply because no one has come forward yet.

Conspiracy theorists make me giggle. It's funny to watch documentaries on them just to listen how ballocks some of them are.

I think the world is full of conspiracies, some of them exposed and some of them unexposed. And among the "exposed" ones, many are probably false.
One conspiracy theory that I believe in is that 9/11 was *trying to carefully choose the correct word*... planned - to some extent, big or small.
I can have some belief in such conspiracy theories of political schemes. When it comes to reptilians and stuff like that, though, I'm not very interested in hearing about it.

Courtney Love killed Kurt Cobain, or at the very least had him killed.

    *Slips on tin-foil hat*

I believe that the media does cover things up and basically control the political and economic realm. If you watched the media after the first democratic debate, all they were showing was how Bernie Sanders said "We're sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails!" (Referring to Hillary Clinton). What they didn't show, and even cut out in a lot of cases, was how inbetween entering the conversation and saying that now-famous line, he talked about how people wanted to hear about the issues relating to them, like the wage gap and things like that, rather than things about driving poll numbers down. And seeing as how the owners of MSNBC and CNN are some of Hillary's largest contributors, as far as Super PACS go, it makes sense that they'd want to boost her poll numbers and drive down the "Weed smoking socialist who them young folks love so much".

And there totally are moon men, you guys.

Nope. But I do believe some crazy leaders are elected by other folk pulling the strings. Maybe some people just want to see some mayhem or something.

I don't believe in any except for Sandy Hook. For some reason, that one is just so hard to believe. Some of the things they say sound bizarre. I'm not 100% sure it's fake. But the "what if..." is definitely there...

I dont know that I would go that far, but I certianly think she was a negative influence on his already deteriorating mental health. I believe it's possible she contributed to his death in that sense. Although he always maintained that she was so wonderful and irreplaceable to him, I have never liked Courtney Love.

As a matter of fact I do believe in some conspiracy theories surrounding the Roman Catholic Church, most notably that Pope John Paul 1 did not die of natural causes in 1978. There are a few others, but that's probably the most sensational one.

Certain ones, yes. Some are too far fetched to be true. Like the reptilian presidents thing my sister swears is true...I honestly think she's a wackjob. But I think that the possibility that some terrorist events were planned to strike fear in the community, is likely. As well as the hiding of evidence that there is life somewhere else in the universe.

I don't know. I don't mind hearing or reading people thoughts on things. Sometimes, it's hard to tell whether something is true or not. However, I'm sure many conspiracy theories are false. There are plenty that have been proven to be false.

Is the existence of aliens supposed to be a conspiracy? If so, then I guess I believe in it.

    I suspect 9/11 was plotted.
And they say we're safer with Republicans in the office...
