Went to my school's first GSA meeting today and man, I was blown away. Everyone was so accepting and kind. And if anyone saw my post about idiotic kids on the bus, it turns out the girl who stood up against them is treasurer of the club. We're doing a few things this year, like a rainbow bake sale for local LGBT groups and Day of Silence. But I've never walked into a room before and felt so accepted and understood. I left esctatic. This is going to be a great club. My advice: if you're any type of LGBT, join Gay Straight Alliance immediately! You won't regret it!
I was tempted to join the one at my school but I'm scared that if I go people would suspect that I'm a lesbian, and I don't feel ready to come out quite yet..>.< I really want to check it out though. Just curious, is everyone who is a part of your GSA part of LGBT+, or are some of them just allies?
There were at least four or five allies. But then again, we got a whole classroom full of people because our school is pretty large so it's proportional.
My GSA has some melodrama from the past due to some big fallout with the regulars and the group organizers. I'm kinda afraid to go back since last time I was there it was poorly organized and etc. Might've changed this year.
The GSA in my school is pretty small (6-7 people, I think), but the school itself is small, anyway. Everyone seems pretty accepting, but the club is trying to be a little more organized, so we didn't really do any discussions or anything. No one really announced their sexuality or anything, so I don't really know their views on the lgbt community. There's another meeting tomorrow, so I'll see what happens.
That's awesome!! Ah, I wish I had a GSA at my school, but we have cool clubs here too.. I'm in the Anime club and the Gender Equality club
I was with some of the GSA members today at my school (we meet on Thursdays). There's things I don't like about it, but also things I do like about it. I think it's worth going to them. Surprisingly, there's a lot more people this year than last year. I like being in an environment where I can just be open and not have to worry about what people might think about me. My school paints windows for Homecoming week. Each club gets a section of the windows (our school has a LOT of windows in the front hallway. The whole front hallway is basically just windows). This year's theme is "around the world", so I outlined the globe for the GSA.
I'm tempted to join the Social Justice club, because it seems similar. Also, I doubt people would suspect anything if I join it. I may join the GSA later though when I'm feeling more confident.^^
My school has an equality club which is about the same thing. I've considered joining it but I decided not to join. I'm too shy to be around other people and I'm not comfortable in social situations.
