I thought Erasure's cover of ABBA's "Take A Chance on Me" was great; they even parodied the video (lol)

Always Something There to Remind Me. The Naked Eyes cover is a zillion times better than the Burt Bacharach original. It's like the song was meant to be synthpop. (Even Burt himself liked the Naked Eyes cover better.)

Dog On Fire (Daily Show Theme) by They Might Be Giants (originally Bob Mould)
Gardenhead / Leave Me Alone by Skating Polly (originally Neutral Milk Hotel)
Hello Hello by Hello The Band (originally Gary Glitter)
Take On Me by Lazlo Bane (originally A-ha)
Wandering Star by Skating Polly (originally Portishead)
Why Does The Sun Shine by They Might Be Giants (originally Tom Glazer)

Plus there's I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone, which has two versions (Sleater-Kinney's original and Gerard Way's cover) that I like in different ways at different times.

The Killers' cover of "Romeo and Juliet" by Dire Straits is definitely better than the original - it's the only version I listen to, but I love the song.

I'm a HUGE David Bowie fan, as you may have noticed by my user name, but Bauhaus' version of Ziggy Stardust I think is better than Bowie's. Seriously love it. Love. It.

This is the only version of this song I listen to. I also kind of have a major crush on Kina Grannis. :icon_redf

    Better than the original:
Crimson & Clover by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go by Soft Cell
You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling by Hall & Oates
Light as a Breeze by Billy Joel

Not Quite as good as the original, but really good anyway:
Your Song by Ellie Goulding-no one could ever do that song as good as Elton John
Total Eclipse of the Heart by Nicki French-and upbeat/dance version of the Bonnie Tyler classic.
Forever (1992) by Beach Boys-the Beach Boys did a cover of their own song. This one has more of a 80's/90's pop/rock music style. John Stamos' lead vocals falls well short of Dennis Wilson's soulful sound on the original.

I prefer Free Kitten's cover of "Oh Bondage Up Yours!" to the XRay Specs original. The original is tighter but the cover has Yoshimi P-We screaming the into part and there is NOTHING better than that.

Chaka Khan's versions of Prince's "I Feel For You" to me because she took it another level that I did not imagine it could go and her version of Michael Jackson's "Got To Be There" is amazing and more soulful than the original even though I do like the original versions.
