I'm just re-reading some books that I liked in middle school. It's so relaxing. I should do this more often.
When I was young, like starting when I was 11 or 12, I read a book series called The Lioness Quartet. Since then I think I've read it like 5 or 6 times! It's wonderful.
I do that all the time. It brings back happy fuzzy memories. One of my favorite books is a book I read in elementary school and carried around with me everywhere. But then, I've read pretty much every book I own at least 5 times. --' 3 if I didn't really like them.
The one book that I read when I was younger, and still re-read from time to time, is The Little Prince. It is such a neat story.
I do this all the time. A good story is a good story no matter your age. I'm attached to the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen that was a standard classroom read back when I was in middle School. I have a copy of it as well as its sequels.
French class ruined that book for me aha I occasionally re read books that used to love. Series of Unfortunate Events and Shadow Children come to mind
The Prydain Chronicles (e.g. Black Cauldron) by Lloyd Alexander, The Earthsea Series by Ursula LeGuin, and the Dark is Rising Sequence by Susan Cooper. I read all three of these every few years because some books are just timeless and get better with every reading.
I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy when I was 11, for the first time. Have read it more than a dozen times since then. I've also reread the Mysts of Avalon series by Marion Zimmer Bradley 3 times. The Clan of the Cavebear by Jean M. Auel 3 times. Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth series 4 times. (Have yet to read the final trilogy though) Terry Brooks 'Shanarra' series twice. Stephen R. Donaldson's 'Thomas Covenant, The Unbeliever' series 5 times. (Really good, about a cynical man with leprosy who makes several trips to an, alternate reality, fantasy world, where he's healthy and the presumed saviour of the land. In most of the books he struggles with accepting the fantasy world because leprosy patients are told to always be mindful of themselves and their fragile health, hence the name Unbeliever). R.A. Salvatore's 'Drizzt' series many times, as well as several other Forgotten Realm series. So, as you can see, I do reread the occasional book from my youth from time to time. It helps that many of them are targeted at adults in the first place. ---------- Post added 30th Aug 2015 at 09:24 PM ---------- I should probably warn you though that the Thomas Covenant rapes someone in the first book. It's not glossed over (the scene itself), nor is the action excused, it plays an imporant part in his whole moral dillema of accepting himself as well as the reality that is The Land (the fantasy, alternate reality he keeps ending up in).
OMG yes, it is such an inspiring book :icon_bigg My father read it to me as a kid, and he recently gave it to me for my birthday, I love that book. I haven't really re-read any other books from my childhood, but I would like to read 'The Secret Garden', 'Neverending Story', and the 'Harry Potter' series again. I read 'Clan of the cavebear' for the first time when I was sixteen or so, and I re-read the entire series once a year. I love the way I get totally immersed in the story every time.
Most of my childhood reads consisted of required reading or Star Wars novels. The one book that was a gift to me was called "Marrying Malcolm Murgatroyd", a rather short book that was about a girl's friendship with her nerdy, childhood neighbour. I'll never go back and read books that were required reading though, school just ruined them for me.
Yeah, that's one of mine. That and maybe the Harry Potter series. Also have found that Judy Blume still really appealing to me. Loved the Fudge books as a kid, still fun picking them up and picking up on stuff I'd missed as a kid.
The only required reading I liked was The Giver. It was very boring and confusing in the beginning, but it eventually got more exciting.
I like doing this, cept instead of books, it's scientific documentaries I liked as a kid ;-; ohh, one of my friends has little prince tattoos o:
Have your read the whole series or just Hatchet. I know most people the tend not to know there where sequels.
I think that's why I like to re-read books in general, for the nostalgic feelings. Of course for the piece of literature itself is a good reason as well. Harry Potter, Eragon series, Silverwing series, Dirt Eaters, Heir chronicles.... When I have a permanent place of my own I'm going to have a study with HUGE shelves to hold all my books that I have collected over the years.
