I learned about gay guys, lesbians, and bisexuals all when I was ten years old. At twelve I knew about transgender people.

Around 10, I had an older gay cousin in the family while growing up. He showed up to family reunions with his boyfriend.

Given I grew up surrounded by wilderness at a time when there was no internet, not until I was maybe 13.

I was aware that two boys or men might do sexual things together, but I had no idea there was any particular name for it; I thought it just happened in nature. (We also never went to church, and my parents were quite liberal) True, one heard different insults in school, though I never really connected them so much with being gay, as boys being nervous or confused about their emerging sexual desires, whatever they might have been.

I first learned that homosexual men existed from the news of all places.

The AIDS scare was big big news in the early 80's .

Back then it was known as " gay cancer"

8, 9 or 10. They all kinda run together. I remember watching something (it was Glee related I think) and this guy was talking about how he came out as gay and his parents were all crazy about it. I just remember thinking 'What's so bad about being happy?' (Because I thought gay meant happy) I then learned about lesbianism soon after that, (Don't remember when I heard about transexuality) but I didn't learn about bisexuality and more until about a year and a half ago.

I ran into sex at about 10, when I clicked on some sort of fanfiction that was rated E for explicit. I thought it was rated E for everyone. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I knew about gay and trans people when I was pretty young (at least 6 or younger). I heard about trans people on a radio show once, and heard about gay people from my parents (probably because of gay marriage debates) and I found out about bisexuality around 9ish probably.

Around the age of 11 i think...
it was on a headline in a nationwide magazine, the first case in our country of men being sentenced 5 years in prison after being caught engaging sexual contact with another men. I dont know it called "gay" back then. Even in magazine they use the term "f:***:ggot".

i learned the term gay when i was 13:dry:

I was 11 and went to a private Catholic school. I thought gay was a derogatory word back then. When my parents told me what gay meant I remember being really confused. I'm thinking in my mind "Okay so why would anyone care. Not really complicated or odd just less common".. Really bugged me from that point on knowing people were treated differently because of their sexuality. Even if you think it's a choice, It shouldn't matter. That's like saying "You like waffles instead of pancakes! I hate you! You're going to hell for all eternity! No maple syrup for you!"

Syrup is for normal people who like pancakes. Pancakes have been around far longer. You cannot just invent new foods! That might people think that liking waffles is okay and we can't have that happening now can we! Think of the children! What if they think liking waffles is Okay! Stupid waffies wanting syrup and spreading waffie propaganda

I had been horribly over-sheltered by ignorant, fundamentalist baptist family members growing up. around 12-13 they brought up how since I was in a public school, I needed to "know about the gay people from them first" and how "the school might lie to me and say it's okay" and they taught me to hate everyone different before I had even came into contact at all.

Thankfully, I began growing my own brain a year or two later, and effectively broke off from religion forever. I really wish there was some way I could apologize to anyone I may have hurt back then.

I didn't actually learn what a gay person was until I was about 15 or so. Before that the term gay had been thrown around by people I knew but it was always in a derogatory way to make fun of someone.

I pretty much knew of gayness at 10 years old.

I learned about all the details at around 16-17? Finally understand most of it at 18. My memory is a little fuzzy. I'm not sure when I started watching the gay youtuber and learning LOTS.
