What Makes Somebody a Badass?

Unfortunately, it's a perception issue. That's what I think. Most bad asses have a certain look, a certain way of carrying themselves, and a certain way of talking. It's a combination of things. Some people are just born with a mean look on their faces and it's easy to pull off the bad ass act. Maybe they look in the mirror one day and say to themselves, "Hey, I can be a bad ass," and they do it.

Using celebs as a point of reference, Justin Bieber and Brody Jenner can never be bad asses. As for Justin Bieber, it sort of goes without saying. With Brody Jenner, he's easy on the eyes and his baseball cap is usually turned backward, but he looks like he can't mess up his hair and is often striking a pose.

Someone who, in my opinion, is the consummate bad ass, with the overall look to go with it would be actor Steven Seagal:

He's not around much anymore, but any person on the street can have this look and I doubt people will ask them for a jump if their battery is dead. I think you get the idea. Having this sort of look has its pros and cons. People probably seat you at restaurants quickly and don't give you grief when in a customer service situation. At the same time, these people might often wonder why people won't approach them or why they are intimidated by them almost automatically.

 

You have to ride down the street on the back of a T-Rex with fire coming out if it's mouth, holding a mini gun I one arm, a flamethrower in the other, with a nuke strapped to your back, lightning flashing in the back ground whilst screaming "from Hells heart, I stab at thee" as you charge into an army of a million ninja's.

Not a follower, nor a leader. A free spirit. One who is self assured and plots their own course through life. They listen more than they speak, but when they do say something they get your attention. A badass isn't necessarily 'bad', in fact they can be very good - they don't seek trouble, but they know how to deal with it.. with cruel efficiency. A badass can be alluringly attractive and they know it, but they don't show it. They will get closer to you, than you ever will to them.

Am I a badass? No way, but somehow, I manage to 'gel' with them.

 

A badass is a person with a strong attitude. It could be positive or negative. Personally, I think my playing "childish" video games and not caring too much about what other people think, is way more badass than somebody committing murder to feed their fragile ego.

I do what I want and I try not to hurt people that don't deserve it. I've been called everything from "sweet" to "satanspawn", and I don't think I've ever been called a "badass", at least not offline. I can't really pull off a tough look, so I stick with my strengths. Anyway, a fun-sized villain can be more terrifying; a bit misleading like the shrike bird :badgrin:

 

I define badass pretty specifically as somebody who can achieve a goal despite extreme personal danger. It doesn't have to be directly fighting-related either. Running into a burning building to save a baby is badass. So is standing up for yourself or a friend against somebody who scares you.

Boiled down into two words, I'd choose "courage" and "capability." If you've got both of those, you're a badass. Congrats.

 

Not giving two fucks about what anyone else thinks...Standing up for what's right...Helping those less fortunate...being fearless...being determined not to give up without a fight.

I think a badass is an internally strong person who isn't afraid to show who they really are. They stand up for what they love, whether it's a person or an idea, and have strong opinions they're confident. They wouldn't just pretend to be someone else or like something to please another.
A badass would be emotionally strong, but not insensitive. They wouldn't complain over the little things, but at the same time would have a big heart and not be afraid to show emotion.

By my personal definition, I'd love to be a badass. I'm using that word too much. It doesn't feel like a word anymore? Is badass an actual word?

If want to be that kind of person as I described. It sounds awesome. I'm not quite there yet. I suppose some parts of me are badass-ish

 

Same with me. I'm not a badass either, but I do find badasses attractive.

Sticks to their truth and takes no shit from anyone. Someone who takes great pride in themselves and who disregards anyone who tries to demean them in any way. A stealth attitude with an aurora of ''don't mess with me''

I have to laugh.. I've been called a badass on here so many times and honestly yeah a part of me is what you all perceive me as. But as far as I'm concerned.. None of us really truly know each other. I think that's what makes this site so interesting! All the mystery!

Anyway.. Yeah. Badass is not a matter of strong and tough you look.. It's about how you carry yourself!

First... Being badass is a temporary state. All 'badasses' have had their epic fails, their weak moments,etc. All of them, no exceptions. They are human. To reach a permanent state of 'perfection in all you do, think and say' is not possible.

But yeah, with the music, machine gun and power 80s ballad you could have something cool...

Smoking is not 'badass' anymore...

And I don't know why do you need a gun... You are badass enough, folks will crap their pants as soon as you appear, right?


Anyways... Cool is not badass. Badass is not possible with human brains. We are supposed to hunt, find shelter and reproduce. Even if you manage to reach 'human perfection' how is that 'badass' in any way?

Also it depend on who is judging. For somebody to save a dog is badass, for somebody else is 'meh'. Some do appreciate physical beauty, and taking care of your body, others say this is 'just being a stupid narcisist'. Some value bookish folks, others laugh at them.

All that implies judgement of human qualities is highly subjective.

So, to me 'badass' as a permanent quality, as 'someone who is all the time' is not realistic enough to believe on it.

 

Someone who isn't afraid of doing dangerous stuff. I mean stuff like, jumping with bikes or skis, doing tricks. Extreme sports basically, that shits bad ass. People who are reckless with other people I don't find bad ass at all, those are just bad people.
