How Are You Going to Celebrate the Supreme Court Ruling?

State sanctioned religious discrimination has finally ended in America.

I also plan to celebrate this victory with a moment of silence, remembering all those who have fallen during the efforts to right a great wrong.

Me and my bi friend took pictures with flags (me the gay pride one and her the bisexual one) so that was fun. And my mum is all happy about it so we had champagne to celebrate

Well, last night didn't really do too much. I had to work and was pretty burnt out. With my day off tomorrow, might do something a little more. Not sure what though. Maybe I'll convince my partner to finally go with me to a movie or we'll take advantage of the now full gas tank and go to San Francisco for once? There's not too much around here- we have a gay district but it's basically just bars and that wouldn't really be my scene even if I was 21.

Ideally, I'd be celebrating this at someone's wedding. But even if I don't get to do anything too terribly elaborate, I do have Netflix.

 

I'm celebrating by joining this forum for good.

 

By worrying.

For two reasons: 1) discrimination is NOT over in other even more basic forms, such as employment, and 2) at the exact same time, the fact that Republicans are trying to figure out a way to dismantle the ACA, colloquially known as Obamacare, is making headlines and is something of concern for me personally.

 

I agree. I find the triumphalism concerning. We needed ENDA probably as much if not slightly more than marriage equality. There's an argument to be made that this might cascade into other important gains, but I'm not going there right now.

We also need health care access for people. The ACA was not what I wanted, and in my opinion the Democrats made too many compromises, but sitting where we are now, we should want to prevent it being dismantled.

 

I'm celebrating this entire weekend

Then, it's back to work to start pushing for ENDA nationwide, to remove the lifetime ban from the FDA's blood bank for MSMs, getting civil rights for our transgender brothers and sisters, getting rid of the glass ceiling that keeps open LGBTQ people out of high ranking spots in corporations, and much, much more that needs to be done before equality can be reached.

 

Maybe I'll go buy a pride flag.

 

Well, my intent was to indulge in all this unadulterated perversion, that the religious right claimed would happen when same-sex marriage was allowed.

Needless to say, I am livid this did not happen! I was hoping Hell would cater the world's largest party, but no, all I get is... another day, like any other.

Sorry to say, but it hasn't.
There's still issues with adoption agencies for example.

 

The SCOTUS ruling made me so happy, I honestly thought they wouldn't do it. So even though I'm closeted I changed my Facebook profile pic and all (it was weird because a lot of people I don't even talk to liked my picture and I don't know if they thought I was declaring myself as literally part of the LGBTQA+ community and not also a harmonizer haha). I didn't talk about it with anyone in RL though.

In Brazil our Supreme Court ruled likewise in 2013, but our Congress is largely conservative, so they'll probably try to enact a law restraining the concept of family as a man-woman job a few years from now. So the good news managed to give me a little more hope for things to change around here. Maybe.
