In serious, this guy is just a nut looking to get some attention. It's the last throw of the dice to try and stop the inevitable and right thing from happening. It's not really any different to all those people who were saying there will be civil war, mass anti Christian persecution, natural disasters and the Oakland Raiders making the playoffs if the court ruled the "wrong" way.

 

I hope he follows through with it. I'm sure the world would be a better place without him.

Seems like he is trying to be called a martyr.

Although without a worthy cause, that just means he will get called a hopeless idiot instead. I think he will have either go through with it or fake his own death, because this kind of thing is hard to live down.

I will happily take up the job of answering your question. The only person who can rightly command sympathy for his plight is a person whose principles and conscience guide her to protect others and assure that they flourish. I am motivated by the interest in the community; an individual may always have her rights, but it is the understanding that all people can suffer, and that we suffer as they do and are allowed to suffer that causes the community to have an interest in their well-being. Therefore it is only when a person demonstrates a commitment to alleviating suffering that a person shows herself deserving.

A person who turns his back on the community spurns its protection. He seeks to vandalize the institutions and the understandings of kindness that underpin everything that is good in the community. Were he in control, he would destroy the very things that make the community as strong and as wonderful as it is.

Therefore, he cannot rightly hope for anyone's concern for him, nor can we be rightly condemned for our reaction to him.
