LGBT News Supreme Court Strikes Down Gay Marriage Bans!

Discussion in 'Current Events, World News, & LGBT News' started by Skaros, Jun 26, 2015.

  1. My avatar has actually come true. 26 June 2015 will hold a special place in my heart, and to think this happened so quickly.

While attitudes haven't changed overnight (and that is something to acknowledge), it's great to know that I can marry my significant other either way.

Because, along with being able to say 'yeah, we're married':

Great news, and I was really happy to see more of my straight FB friends being so supportive allies!

Means a lot for basically everyone in the LGBT community. I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but this basically benefits trans people too. No more worrying about whether legally changing your gender will affect your gender and no more worries about whether or not you even can legally change it with your state.

Anyway, now everyone can marry. And to think six years ago we never would've expected this in ten years, well it's a great sign that things are moving in the right direction.

Battle's definitely not over yet. But we've come a really long way in such a short time and that's very, very heartening to see. That second-class citizen status is starting to fade away. I'm hoping in the next five years we can see even more change, starting with employment protections.

I already live in a state that had marriage equality for a while but now that my friends, family and etc all over the country can, it may be worth me getting married myself

Although the fight isn't over it's a great battle that's been won today.

Congrats all! We all knew it was going to happen eventually and it's finally here. This will go down in history as a major civil rights victory! ^-^

    I'm just happy about today

Despite all of the arguing I've had to deal with today in both the real world and online, the decision to legalize gay marriage has made incredibly happy. This is a historical day that I am very proud to be a part of. Change is always met with controversy, and hopefully everything will work out for the better.

I'm still trying to rap my mind around it. I can't bring myself this actually, officially happened, in my own country, and affects my own state, and it actually happened, and this is really happening . . . :newcolor:

Pissy straight neighbors called the police on a lesbian couple celebrating the ruling. Hahaha. The outcome was good, though.

I am VERY happy. It feels good that, should I ever marry, I can marry a guy in the same state where my family has married for generations (take that back, my cousins had to get married in New Mexico because they are first cousins and Texas wouldn't marry them :lol:slight_smile:. It would have really sucked to have to travel across state lines to marry. In fact, the closest jurisdiction that would marry gay people would have been Coahuila, MEXICO, 150 miles away.

Still, we need to work on anti-discrimination rights.

This day has been one of the best I've had in many years! I was already having a damn good day, and now to hear this. I am simply overjoyed.

I've only been bi for 6 months, and i have little to no knowledge of politics, but i'm so excited that the gay marriage ban has been lifted. People love who people love, and a piece of paper or whatever can't stop that

I'm super excited!!! My coworkers and I were discussing this earlier, and wow...it's shocking yet, so amazing, right?!

Gosh, I can't wait to get married now; all I have to do is find the right woman now... :eusa_danc

What does make me sad is that there are a few people on Facebook who I'm friends with, who are not feeling the decision. But hey, what can I say, it's not like a spend any time with these people. So, their opinion is mute. It still amazes me how so many people are offended by something that has nothing to do with them. Like, just because I want to marry a woman, how does that affect you personally. But, I guess I will never understand, or perhaps it's not meant for me to understand.

Victory! :newcolor: As someone who has LGBTQ family and friends who I love and support very much, and as someone who is currently questioning his own sexuality, it is no exaggeration to say that today is one of the greatest days of my life!

    I feel like this guy --> (!!)
