Funny misconceptions you had as a kid.

I thought that sperm sort of flew like the invisible tadpoles they are shown to be in biological classes and were not contained in a fluid. They were just airborne. And if you got an erect penis close to an exposed vagina, the sperm would just fly into it invisibly. That's scary for a 14 or 15 year old boy. I later learned sperm was contained in emissions of bodily fluids. Some relief came with that.

 

The biggest one for me would have been the misconception that if you ate the seeds of a watermelon, a watermelon would grow in your stomach.

I blame the Rugrats for this one lol...

 

I though old people were really smart and wise. I got really disappointed when I found out the opposite.

 

When I was a child I thought that when you drove through an underwater tunnel, you had to drive the car into the water. So I was TERRIFIED when finding out we were going to drive through one.

 

When I discovered that gay marriage was a thing I thought everyone was bi/pan(didn't have a concept of sexual orientation.) Someone mentioned they were getting married. I asked if it was a man or a woman. Everyone laughed.

 

I believed that the past was in black and white, due to old photos and movies. I thought at some point someone "invented color". lol

I didn't know numbers went past 10 and remember when I learned the number 11, I was amazed.

 

My mom and I used to watch a lot of musicals together, and for a while I was completely convinced that if I started singing when we were out somewhere everyone would break into song. So I sang constantly and was very confused when no one joined in :lol:
I also thought that men got women pregnant by biting their necks and injecting sperm through their teeth-- I watched a nature documentary with lions mating (and the male pinning the female down with his mouth on her neck) when I was very young, and my mom showed me the Miracle of Life when I was 3 with all of the *intimate* parts skipped so I knew all of egg fertilization stuff, but I had no idea how the sperm got there

 

I was confused at why a girl would buy a box of 36 tampons, I thought 'once a month' meant it would last 3 years :roflmao:

 

I thought all movies with characters that had flashbacks of their young selves took many years of producing and planning, since they had to start filming the actor at an early age for those short scenes. I was so impressed by this.

 

I thought every person in the entire world spoke Swedish, although I also knew that, for some reason (I suspected aesthetic), people spoke other languages, too.

 

I thought adults were all really nice and friendly, then I got a job at grocery store.

With the radio, I thought there was like a divey little building near a fuel station (idk why a fuel station) that all the famous singers lined up at to take turns singing.

I thought gay men had sex by basically have a sword fight with their penis :') not sure if that is a fun game you guys play sometimes but when I was a kid I just couldn't think of any alternatives hahaha

I also thought that when guys were turned on the sperm made them hard, not blood, and then when I was talking about it think I knew all there was to know I got laughed at by my friend, he at least corrected me though lol

 

I thought all movies were filmed in one go, for some reason- and that everyone literally had to memorize all lines and all scenes were filmed in order. The cut scenes were cut out but I legitimately thought there were just people running around for several hours. Not sure how that logically makes sense, but that was what I thought.

 

When I was a kid, I thought that food with parts of it burned black had become encrusted in licorice.

 

I used to think that tiny little men lived inside Street lamps and turned them on when it went dark. I used to knock on them to see if anyone answered. They never did.

 

If you reconected the head of a worm with its body, the worm would live again.

 

I thought that 20-year old me would be big, strong, wise, and financially independent. Ha.

Another one was that everyone who got arrested had to stay in jail forever (this was at a very young age, like 5). Thankfully I never got in trouble with the cops or I would have had a meltdown XD.

 

After seeing Peter Pan I thought I could fly if I believed...did a belly flop off my bed...forgot about the pixie dust.

 

Oh, hell to the yes.

-Adults knew everything.
-Photoshop was used for movies. I used this to resign any logic in working out how movies were made.
-The male had to get his penis all the way into the uterus to successfully mate, but this was due to losing attention while watching a Health & Human video.
-Females had one clean, vertical slit for a vagina.
-That you just needed one driving test with an instructor and you got your license and car, and that's it.
-All schools and educational institutions are free.
-Addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, BODMAS and complicated high school/college maths were the only types of Maths.
-If you wanted to move houses, call the real estate, pick a home and after contracts and upfront payment, you owned the house.
-Nicotine got you addicted instantly after one puff and almost impossible to quit.
-One political party represented the rich people, and the other represented poor/working class people.
-That nobody shoplifted. It wasn't a rule, it was a social norm everyone followed.
-You would be famous just to get on TV or on a DVD. I went to a parade with some other kids when I was 8, and remember how excited, then angry I was when I watched the news that night and found the kid next to me was shown, but not me.
-Easy to have a boyfriend/girlfriend: Just ask them if they wanted to be your gf/bf. Then you have to wait for a few years, until you got married & bought a house together to prepare for a life forever together.
-"Why do people do drugs if it only messes you up?" < Always wondered this before I found out about 'high's.

 

Me too! Although the weird part is I pictured the very old past as being colored--but that that there was a black and white period in the early 20th century until color came about

I also thought eating a big black watermelon seed would make a watermelon plant grow inside me. lol

 

I always asummed that being gay or bi was completely normal and never had been seen as something bad or weird sadly I was wrong
