    Selfish commuters have been arrested for 'manspreading' | Metro News

    So apparently people are actually getting arrested for the heinous crime of "manspreading", i.e. sitting on public transportation with your legs spread so as to take up two seats.

    I guess the reason I find this funny is: does it really have to be called "manspreading"? What if a woman does it? Is she still going to be charged with "manspreading"? Also, what about people who take up an extra seat with their bag or something? Would that also count?

    This should be a matter of proper etiquett, but of course it has to be made into something criminal. A simple request by the subway users should solve the problem and if the person manspreading is not an ass, they'll comply. This is ridiculous lol.

    Gosh... Imagine being arrested for that. Isn't that a bit of an overreaction? I'd be furious. I mean, yeah, it's annoying, but arrest-worthy? No offense, but I'm sure the cops have better things to do... right?

    I think this story has more to do with the NYPD not having anything better to do than pestering individuals instead of actually doing their jobs than it does with the crime they were arrested for.

    Hahaha I think the real issue, as original poster says, is the NAME! "Manspreading" sounds a little yucky, I have to say :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    I've always thought that the best way to go about 'broken windows' policing would be to send all the cops out with construction tools and paint to fix dilapidated houses for people and plant pretty flowers in their yards. Wouldn't the world be a better place if cops actually helped people?

    I live in NYC, and I'll tell you that manspreading is an issue. However, is it something worth being arrested over, especially at 12:11AM? Likely not. The people on the subway that I'd like to see arrested are violating another image in the campaign:
