Though, I also want to point out the full quote at the end...

That's from the Times of India.

I have a feeling now his mother will be getting a flood of proposals. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I don't agree with arranged marriages for obvious reasons but I'm glad this mother isn't trying to force her son to marry a female... At least she respects he's gay!

As long as this is what he wants, I find it rather sweet (which is what it seems like). Though personally I'd be pissed off if my Mom did this to me.

Yeah, I'm opposed to arranged marriages and caste systems as well. However, I thought it was a cute story of a mother worried about her son being alone, and since he was consenting to it and technically choosing his future husband, I figured I could tip my hat just a little bit... just for the "awww that's sweet" factor. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Even my cold cynical heart thaws out just a little bit every now and then. :icon_wink

Indians are Indians, even when they're gay!

Now we only have to make a Bollywood film about it, with dances and music and the like.

That story is rather pleasant =3

Nice to see a parent doing the whole parenting thing right for a change.

I'm opposed to arranged marriage, but if you really look at this story it's clear there is a little more to this particular story

Aww that's cute. Nice to see the mother being supportive of her son. At least she isn't trying to force him to marry a female and accepts that he is gay.

Although I don't agree with arranged marriages, I feel that the mother had her son's best interest in mind and didn't want him to be alone.

I think it's great that she's trying to help him and is respectful of his sexuality...a lot of countries are not that accepting

I'd be absolutely mortified if my mom ever tried to set me up with someone, to be honest. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Aw  Good on her. I feel for her though, no mother should have to see her child struggle in a society that won't accept them, she's trying so hard to make her son happy.

The full article read that she was worried that he doesn't have a boyfriend yet and he was 36 so why not try the waters of arranged marriage, which is still the norm in the country....
It is indeed a brave step n if you look at it in a way it is a movement towards equality because she Is doing what she would have if he was straight....proud of her...oh n she clarified the caste mention was just mockery at how things worked in the country:slight_smile:

I'm happy that she is accepting of him but I disagree with arranged marriage, it should be his choice.

They do have a choice. From what my friend told me, they're given several "options" by their parents, and will spend time with each, ultimately deciding to spend their life with one, in the end.

Of course, how Indians and Europeans/Americans/Etc. see marriage is also quite different. For Westerners, love is the end-all, while many Indians believe that's a horrible reason to marry, and point at how many divorces there are in the US.

The belief is that two people will eventually "grow" on one another. Economics play an important role, and the children's futures are a concern. Reminds me of those political medieval marriages between nobility.
