Spent all night celebrating the 1st birthday of my parents "grandchild". My parents got to know a couple at our church because they have come here on a mission of sorts to reach the local Bengali community. Long story short, my parents are obsessed with the child and adopted here. They are even closer with her more than traditional "Godparents". They'd rather celebrate with her than deal with the problems they have with my brother and me because our problems of depression aren't important I guess. The couple is over at my parents' house one to two times a week at least. My parents have a crib and a whole bunch of toys for the child. I realize that this family is young and here from Bangladesh and are extremely nice. I know that the couple's parents still live in Bangladesh, and it must suck to live away from your parents in your 20's.

The thing that bothers me is that my parents know all about Bengali culture, yet they have ZERO desire to get to know the culture of their own child. Refused to see my ex-boyfriend when we were together. Then offhandedly in casual conversation with the couple tonight, they bring up that my aunt(dad's sister) is coming up from Texas for my "uncle's birthday". When actuality, she is coming up here to celebrate my uncle's wedding [to a man]. My parents are so ashamed about talking about anything LGBT, they can't even reference an event. They'd rather lie about it.

Then, that brings me to the next point. From the day after the wedding was announced between my uncle and his soon to be husband, they have refused to go. Last week, my mom says, "We love/support them and hope they have a good future. We're going to write a nice letter." No, giving them support would be checking your f'ing feelings at the door and going. Put on a smile and just fake it.

Then my dad says, "I don't hate gay people, you know that, David. Look at how I have financially supported you during you being unemployed, blah, blah. But I refuse to be bullied by other people in the family regarding my beliefs regarding this event."

Anyways, I am ranting. The thing is I have nothing against this 1 year old obviously. She's innocent. She is an adorable child, and they are nice people. But you need to take care of your home issues before you solve the world's problems.

Just finished watching the last few episodes of Empire. Ugh, I want to watch season 2 already! Thank goodness it'll begin next month, which is coming up soon

I hope I get to live long enough to love something or someone as fervently as people who are not on Facebook love to tell others that they are not on Facebook.

I don't want to think of you when I'm trying to find comfort in my head.

It makes me very angry seeing comments from the LGBTQ+ community members making transphobic and downright ignorant remarks about Aydian Dowling's success on being the first Transgender on the cover of Men's Health magazine. It angers me like no other. These people say such terrible things about how he's not a "real man" and shouldn't be on the cover and it's just not cool. The way that I see it is, if you're not okay with a specific group of the LGBTQ+ community and have no problems with being any kind of phobic towards that particular group then you need to sit down and re-evaluate why you're part of the movement because you aren't just doing it for your own personal group, you're doing it for everyone. There is no room for intolerance here. Being intolerant or phobic is only going to hold everyone back.

I love how my friend has become emotionally invested in my studies. Right now it looks like he cares about my grades more than my own parents.

Well if it is going to be 110+ again! At least it'll give me an excuse to sit around and do nothing all day.

Sooooooo..my "straight" Australian roommate and I just made out for the first time. He really wants to experiment and it's like my wildest fantasies just fell directly into my lap from the land down under. It's crazy. I'm confused and he's confused but it's really fun so who cares seems to be the general consensus. Also starting today I am growing a man bun with an undercut. I can already do a baby ponytail!
