I love the words "bro" and "dude." I use them to refer to people of just about any gender.

What do I generally think of when I hear the word bro, though?
    Something like this:

So bro might be to guys what bestie or BFF is to women, based on scanning what friends posted on Facebook ... for a while, anyway, and then getting fed up with it!

It could mean a few things. It all just depends on how I say it.

    1. "Chill out, bro." -- using it in place of the word "dude."

    2. "Would you be a bro and pick up my shift?" -- cool, generous person

    3. "We aren't dating. He's one of my bros." -- a friend

    4. Referring to my actual brother.

The first three instances are gender-neutral, btw.

    Ouch.

To me it is similar to the word dude. I use it in a joking fashion with friends, siblings, and parents. And in my book, it's gender neutral like the word dude. However, if you don't want to be referred to as either because they're gendered in your book, I won't call you either. Just gotta let me know you don't like it.

I was posting on the bodybuilding forums for a while and everyone there call each other "brah".

By the way: did you just call me bro? 0_0:

^ This is too funny, at least to me a a non-native english speaker. Too bad I can't find the whole episode where Yamanashi is actually calling him Bro. In the video that part is cut.
