Crimson Peak was also my most recent movie; I actually enjoyed it as a Gothic romance, not a scary movie. Isn't it based on a book? I think I heard that somewhere...anyway having studied 19th Century lit I enjoyed picking out all the Gothic romance aspects of it haha. I agree that the cinematography was excellent, but it definitely suffered from *spoilers* a lack of diversity and a really ableist plot twist with the sister..

It didn't work for me as a Gothic Romance either because I found Mia Wasikowska and Tom Hiddleston had no chemistry whatsoever. I only picked up that they had fallen in love because the movie told me they had fallen in love. There were no sparks there, no passion, nothing at all that could help me believe these two people would realistically fall for one another, they just did because the plot necessitated it. It felt very arbitrary.

Regarding the "plot-twist," it was so obvious from the very first scenes between the siblings I was actually hoping it was a red-herring and Del Toro was gonna surprise us with something else (anything more interesting). Nope, it was exactly what it seemed like, like everything else in this movie. So superficial, so shallow. I don't understand what you mean by ableist.

Boyhood. It's not exactly action packed and there's so much detail lost because of the amount of time covered, but I enjoyed it. I think it was really cool how they filmed it over 12 years using the same actors so you could see how everyone actually aged.

Ableism is like discrimination against disabled people or anyone with mental or physical illness, so in this case it would be the *spoiler* trope of the ~violent crazy person murderer~ even though mentally ill people are more likely to be the victims of violent crime than non mentally ill people. Besides it's a super lazy and boring trope that lets writers get away with not giving their characters any sort of actual motivation.

Oh she was mentally ill? I must have missed that info-dump in between yawns.

I assumed she had killed her mother because of the beatings and whatnot, and the rest because they were standing between her and her brother's incestuous bond.

I watched Super 8 last night. It was pretty good, although just a tad creepy. Rating - 8/10

    oh yeah, spoiler tags exist..
But yeah it's revealed around the part where
Allen confronts the siblings and says that the brother was sent to boarding school but the sister was on paper sent to a nunnery but actually was sent to a mental hospital; they later follow it up with the sister mentioning it herself. -.-
Anyway it was a cop-out on the writers' part.

Tonight I saw The Prestige. Was going to watch Halloween for obvious reasons, but it wasn't on the PlayStation store.

Two days ago I saw Love & Mercy. They were both excellent movies and I recommend them both.

Star Wars 6 Return of The Jedi, while generally regarded as the weakest of the original trilogy, it definitely has some of my favorite moments of the whole saga.

Watched Crimson Peak a few days ago-9/10. Soooo good.

Watching with my friends was an added bonus, because of their reactions at the jump scares. The movie's good, but not worth a re-watch. Spoils the tension that's the main point of the movie.
