I'm trying to find new books to read and I have a hard time finding good LGBT books. What are some of your favorites??

Thompson Highway (Canadian Cree author) had a fantastic novel about being a gay native in the residential school system in the 70s. Completely forget the title :/

Aside from that, I'm just finishing Gareth Thomas's Pride & I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone struggling with their sexuality and/or coming out. Countless chapters I've finished just enthralled by his writing style of his thoughts almost in tears with how close to home it hit. It's a great story of hope & self-actualization.

Gordon Merrick also wrote some "romance" type books.

This isn't really an LGBT book series but I'm enjoying the gay characters in The Mortal Instruments

Annie On My Mind by Nancy Garden. Might be a little outdated but it's such a sweet love story. I second Boy Meets Boy.

^ I'm sure you will love it! It's basically LGBT utopia.

When Women Were Warriors series. Well they are the only LGBT book/s I've read so they automatically win. I really liked how the relationships were portrayed in the fantasy styled world, as in it wasn't unnatural, there was no fear of being outed or anything of that nature. It was all very natural seeming and fit in the world the author made. I'm crap at describing books/games you name it, I can't describe it properly no matter how much I like or dislike it. But yeah it's good especially for a fantasy series considering there are so few that are LGBT.

I can't remember who it is by, but it's about a intersex girl who's parents kept her condition a secret and raised her as male. It takes place in what I think was a private school, and I like how it is written, back and forth between Alex's life and her mom's blog posts. There is some definite unreliable narrators in the book.

Haven't read many but I'm in love with Annie On My Mind. ♥ I want to actually buy a copy I can hold (I've only read it electronically) but I get nervous asking my parents for things.

I just really like how relatable the main character is. Her thoughts remind me of things I might think in her situation. The romance is really cute and exciting. It's also a really good example of what struggles gay people face in their relationships. It's one of the few books I can really get myself absorbed in.

    Who would've guessed?

Luna by Julie Anne Peters. A really interesting book I read before I was really introduced to the lgbt community. The short novel is about an mtf and how she deals with dysphoria, being in the closet, and all that fun stuff. Interestingly enough, it's told through the eyes of her sister. It's a quick read, and really gives you a kick in the feels. I highly recommend it.

*the book certainly has its flaws in realism, but I still believe it to be valuable to read.

    For Fiction:
Keeping You a Secret by Julie Anne. It's emotional, has relatable characters and provides an interesting look at wide variety of things including coming out, acceptance, rights, advocacy and relationship.

    For Non-Fiction/Memoir Type Books:
One in Every Crowd by Ivan E. Coyote. It's a collection of true short stories from this persons life on their experiences being queer. They have written multiple collections like this but this is their only one specific to queer youth. It's only one by this author I've read so far but I plan on reading their other stuff too. (I used "they" as the pronoun in this scenario because I didn't know the author's preferred pronouns. I've seen some sources I would have described as reliable use "they" and some sources I would have described as reliable use "she". I hope I haven't offend anyone.)
