If it is a serious, monogamous relationship, yeah, that's definetely upsetting.

Very bad is an understatement. If I catch someone cheating on me, there wouldn't be any time for explanations, excuses, or apologies; they'd be gone.

Its only bad when I catch you cause its not a problem until you get caught, cause when you get busted that shows it wasn't the first time. You might get away with it a thousand times but your TRUE colours will always show in the end.

    Very, very bad.

Given that (and the results of this poll), I'm amazed by the frequency with which it happens. And I find it very interesting that I've noted many people whom I never would have guessed would cheat on their partners...did so.

[I must clarify, though, that to cheat is to break a promise / violate an understanding (whether the promise or understanding was implicit or explicitly articulated). If the understanding between the couple explicitly allows for sex outside the relationship, then such sex is not cheating.]

    VERY BAD!!!!

When someone cheats on me, I immediately end the relationship. It's not negotiable, and I won't ever trust him/her again. Most of my relationships ended because the guy/girl cheated. So yeah, cheating is a definite no-no

Cheating in my eyes is when he/she has sex or even kiss another person (I'm talking about making out with someone else, not a quick peck like friends sometimes do to greet each other). Also when they sext with someone else, or send nudes to someone else, or go on dates with someone else. I'm quite strict about these things.

    In general, it's potentially destructive.

But then you have to establish that area, when it stops being friendly or casual and begins becoming something else. Some folks have a hard time time knowing when cheating begins, but they know when it has happened.

I'd like to think folks would discuss and share, what they believe constitutes cheating, early enough, because some consider emotional cheating to be worse. Others find the mental aspect disheartening, because it is the seed so to speak.

Somebody cheats on me, there's no other way to say this:

    Good luck finding better, LOL.

Very bad. Everyone has basically said the same thing, but I will say it again. You do not cheat on your partner. Ever. There is no reason. You cannot justify yourself. No. It means you are not getting something in the relationship you do have. Relationships are about trust, honesty, and commitment. You tell the person and own up to your feelings and actions. Cheating is cowardly, childish, and vile. There is nothing okay about it. End of story.

Extremely bad...a sure deal breaker...Sorry, but you know you're open to cheating before it happens...have the courtesy to discus it with me before you humiliate me and make a fool of yourself...we can then work things out or part ways.

Cheating is very bad, but I think that something important that most couples don't do is defining cheating!

    Example:
My first boyfriend and I kissed other people all the time. To us, this was not cheating. It was something we had talked about and said we didn't care about since before dating. Same with my most recent ex and flirting. Flirting was not something to get jealous about or consider bad. I remember a co-worker being afraid of me for a week because my "boyfriend had flirted with her all night".

On the other hand, [someone I know]'s first boyfriend spent every weekend at his ex's house because they watched Pretty Little Liars together. He also spent a lot time texting her, although he also sent lots of texts to [SIk]. But she felt that he was cheating, and confronted him about it. He disagreed and wouldn't stop; they broke up.

I think that just as much as me and my first boyfriend making out with other people wasn't cheating, [SIk]'s first boyfriend definitely was cheating. The line is drawn where you draw it and different people feel differently about what counts as cheating.

To be honest at this age I don't give a damn about love part as you will eventually love again.

However trust part is devastating. It takes more time than healing a broken heart.

For cheaters, a bullet to the head is a waste of a good bullet.

It is an "ender". Totally, completely, and utterly. No "if's", "and's", or "but's"!

Cheating seems like it would cause a guilty conscience and lots of feelings of ego-dystonia along with the struggle of leading a double life...how anyone can manage all of that is beyond me. My brain would simply not allow that and I am glad I hold that ethic.
