British researchers assembled data from 20 previous studies of penis size (over 15,000 men in various parts of the world) and found that the average length of an erect penis to be 5.16 inches.

It is hoped the new findings will help to reassure men who are concerned that they are too small.

My first question: how can you measure your own erect penis?
My second question: is it bad my is almost certainly smaller?

Well, its not too difficult to self measure, you just need a ruler/measuring device and an erect penis. You place one end of the ruler against the base of your penis where it meets your lower abdomen (the top of your penis, opposite side of your testicles) and then just look at how far down the ruler the tip of your penis is. There are plenty of (obviously NSFW) images on Google that show just how its done.

And no there is nothing wrong with being smaller than the average. it's an average after all so while some people are above it there will be others below it as well, nothing unusual or bad about that.

I am smaller than before, especially after my weight gain. I swear it was 6 inches when I was a teen. Now, it is like ALMOST 5 when hard. "Honey, I shrunk the penis". :frowning2:

The way I look at it for most people (mainly straight guys bragging about their "huge dicks" [yea honey i know you're fibbin I've done shit with alll you boys] ), you can brag about how big your dick is all you want, but I bet half of it's shoved into your personality.

In all seriousness though, love your body regardless of the size of your thighs, how much/little your tummy pokes out, the size of your penis/breasts, etc. You're all absolutely beautiful in your own ways and something as simple as the size of something on your body does NOT matter. <3

Are those measurements done by pushing down to the pubic bone?

Does it really change people's personality that much ? I mean, I for myself, didn't ever think of it as something that makes you more of a man than someone else. It's great for sex or for the porn industry, but it doesn't change anything in social relationship, does it ?

I wouldn't say it's "great for sex", actually, in fact, it may even be a problem to be e.g. girthier than average. It makes anal sex more difficult. It always fascinated me how some (I don't mean you - just to be clear) bragged about their size and how it would be better. For me it was the other way round, I actually wanted it to be a bit smaller.

Size doesn't matter is not true in my opinion. It's not everything, but it does matter to an extent. =)

If you think about how 'averages' are calculated…
by definition 50% of the population will be smaller than the average

That's not true, as it depends on the skewness of the distribution of the data. If I calculate the average of the following 5 values: 10, 10, 10, 10 and 0, we easily see that the average is 8, but there's only one below average.

If you assume a normal distribution for the data, then it is indeed the case (as the normal distribution has a skewness of 0, meaning that the data is symmetrically distributed). =)

That being said, @wolf of fire, it's not bad at all. =)

I guess it did't shrink. You have probably just more fat around the penis, so it appears to be smaller.

That's not correct. You're thinking of the median, where you have one figure and half of the population fall on either side of that figure.

To go from cm. to in., divide by 2.54, folks.

I always thought it was about 5.75," but it doesn't matter. Someone with good technique, a face you can't keep your eyes off, and an inch less would be better than someone who didn't have those things but an inch more. Just saying.

My friend with whom I would have all sorts of bizarre discussions and make up, or laugh at, all sorts of acronyms once said something like 'It seems like gay guys have either the smaller ones or the bigger ones.' He went on with 'the ones with the smaller ones seem to covet the big ones and the ones with the larger ones are in love with their own penises, and how much action it can get them.' I can see some truth in that, but I'm also thinking most G/B men are also right around whatever the average is and are probably ok with it. Gosh, I miss that friend. Meh. Like his dad, he has his own affair going with the bottle. We could be driving somewhere far and laugh for hours on end with all the crazy shit we could come up with.

I will say that getting out of a cold ocean or a cold lake isn't always the most flattering pose. For that, there's the expression "a show-er or a grower."

As said before, take a hard ruler and push it in until it hits your pubic bone. If you curve like a banana, use a soft measuring tape to get an accurate read. The study did not count those who complained about being small or too big as it would skew the data. So the actual average might just be a bit smaller.

You gained fat above your penis. When you're doing the sex if you push in hard enough you should be able to get a bit more of your penis inside or somesuch. If you are measuring, make sure that the rulers hits your pubic bone and not just fat. If you do not, you are not getting an accurate read on your length.

    Aye aye.

The study points out a few sources of error. The study was only collated data from English studies, as such most of their subjects are Caucasian Europeans. Only 4 of the studies reported erect length while only 2 provided measurements for erect girth. Out of the 15521 subjects, erect length is only taken from 692. Girth is taken from 381 subjects, 301 from India. The smallest penis measured is ~3 inches.

The study cannot be used as a way to accurately measure erect length for everyone. I am unaware of how stretched length differs from erect length, if it's similar then it increases the length needed to be in the upper percentile.

Link to the official study and not a news article: I recommend getting your data from this link y'all.
