How do you say the year?

Do you say it like 'Twenty-fifteen' or 'Two-thousand-fifteen' ?

    Just curious.

    I say two thousand fifteen.
"two thousand fifteen" has five syllables and so did most of the years in the late 1900s, but nobody thought any of them were too long.
I think in Back to the Future II, Doc Brown says "two thousand fifteen" when they go to the future.

English isn't my mother tongue so I'd rather go with "twenty fifteen" than "two thousand fifteen". I find the first one easier to pronounce.

Either works - twenty-fifteen, two thousand and fifteen.
    I just hate "2k15" etc.
Also, a question: Americans, do you remove the "and" from larger numbers? Like, three hundred and four? Two thousand and fifteen?

Twenty15. Pronounced 'twonnie15' with my minnesota accent. xD

I used thousand up until 2013 but now twenty rolls off the tounge easier.

    Two thousand fifteen.

I do. IIRC, my 5th grade teacher was hugely opposed to using the and. If nothing else, the "and" sort of makes it sound like two separate numbers rather than one whole. E.g. 2015 "two thousand and fifteen" sounds like 2000+15. Whereas two-thousand fifteen sounds like 2015. Admittedly, the end result is the same...

Twenty fifteen. I don't mind either way, but it annoys me when people say twenty fifteen, but two thousand and nine, because it's annoying to say twenty o nine. -_- Use one or the other!

I say it in square roots. Every time someone asks me the date, I state very clearly and slowly, "Square root of four, square root of zero, square root of one, square root of twenty-five." I write it on all of my papers. It's a tedious lifestyle but it has to be done.

I say two-thousand-fifteen. It really depends on the person.

When I was little I used to include 'and' but when I was in fifth grade my teacher said that's not correct. Sometimes including 'and' is seen as childish or just pointless/silly.

I was also taught not to use "and" when speaking a single number (I'm American). It changes the meaning slightly.

I know it's wrong to put an 'and' in there, but I do :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: Other numbers I don't add the and, but it just sounds better with it to me :3

    Two thousand and fifteen.

    I say, twenty fifteen
    's faster

    Also, two thousand fifteen?
    200015?
I don't see how two thousand and fifteen is grammatically incorrect?

    Someone please explain.

    Twenty-fifteen.

That's how most people I know say it.

Years like 2005 should have been pronounced twenty-oh-five like nineteen-oh-five, but for some reason we dropped that with the year 2000 - but have now gone back to the way it was before since the 2000s are finished.

It seems like most people in my area say "twenty fifteen" but I say "two thousand fifteen".

I say "twenty fifteen" but think "two thousand and fifteen".

I think it's because I never got out of the habit of the 2000s but because everybody says the truncated version, it's easier to say the same thing and it seems less stuffy.

    ---------- Post added 3rd Jan 2015 at 10:51 AM ----------

All English standard English dialects have phased out "five-and-twenty" as the structure for smaller numbers. Americans must feel that larger numbers deserve the same treatment.

I've never been taught to drop the "and". It sounds rather incomplete without it.

It's like 2,000+15. Just, the 'and' (+) taken out.

I use both depending on how I feel. Most of the time I'll say twenty fifteen though.

I'm starting to say "twenty-fifteen". I wonder how long it took our ancestors to say "nineteen-whatnot" instead of "nineteen hundred-and-whatnot".

Twenty-fifteen. In 2010, I would use "twenty-ten" and "two thousand ten" interchangeably depending on whichever came out of my mouth. I still say both, but I like the way "twenty-fifteen" sounds.
