I'm fluent in Spanish and English. I can understand French and Portuguese but can't speak them.

I can speak fluent English, and really small bits of German. At the same time, I also know really small bits of Japanese. I'm teaching myself German atm, but I'll probably learn Japanese next.

    Like many Americans, just English.

However, I have been studying Japanese and can do some basic conversation in it. I've studied Latin and Greek for years, but more to read it and write it, not to speak it.

Just the one. Unless you count grunts/groaning. My mum often tells me she doesn't speak that language, don't know if it counts though...

Just English. I can read French a little bit and could probably stumble around if I absolutely had to rely on it, but I'm far from being bilingual.

I only know a tiny bit, but even from my limited knowledge of it, and from what linguists say about it, it's an amazingly rich and beautifully constructed language.

My daughter spoke that language for a while. It used to be that if I asked, "did you have breakfast this morning?" she would reply, "hmph". I always had to ask for a translation. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I speak English and I grew up speaking Spanish. I'm too scared to speak Spanish. :frowning2: When I tried to speak Spanish I had no accent, but I stuttered like crazy. I've studied Icelandic and dabbled in some other Scandinavian languages. Right now I'm studying a bit of Hebrew. It's very hard for me. I'm mostly studying because I'm very bored. I don't care how good I get.

I speak English and some German. I also understand Scottish dialect, which tends to confuse many people. I got away with 'bastardising' the English language until I turned 16. It's funny because it's my native language. I understand little bits of many languages, but usually only when I'm talking to people who speak those languages. I actually used to be pretty decent at French, and nowadays I've lost most of it.

Textbooks only work so much. The best way to learn a language, is to have a passion for it, talk with people who speak the language, use it as much as possible, and maybe even play video games in other languages. I also listen to a lot of music with lyrics in German. It all helps!

That is interesting. I wonder Gypsy language people use here is the same with yours.

I can speak some Spanish, but English and Japanese quite fluently. I did a home stay in Japan for three months this past summer; it was so amazing!! I can't wait to go back
