    5-7-5 isn't a strict rule and even famous Japanese poets stray from it if need be. What's more relevant is drawing parallels between opposing ideas introduced in the haiku, or suggesting a deeper look into the relationship of the two. Writing meaningful, short haiku in English is unnecessarilly difficult because articles eat a syllable or two out of every line.

    a brush strokes the eyes
    — canvas of poems: a taut mind.
    Why aren't both paintings?
