I live in Indiana. I am gladly surprised that this passed because Indiana is so backward. They tried to ban gay marriage in Indiana but the feds shot them down.

This is great to hear! I've had dealings with Faegre Baker Daniels related to other discrimination issues. This makes me respect their pro bono efforts even more.

archerrose, let's not forget concerted effort on the part of many Hoosiers last year to prevent that Draconian anti-gay marriage amendment from becoming a part of the state constitution. It was a great moment to see what most had considered an easy victory for the Republicans supermajority here turn into a victory for the LGBT community and our allies. Few people outside the state will see it that way since gay marriage was already banned by civil law, but it will always be a proud moment.

It's not every day that I get to feel good about my home state. But today I will celebrate for the transgender community in Indiana.

Oh, yes, definitely. Although we technically just kicked the can down the road to 2016, with trends going as they are in terms of LGBT acceptance, it would have stood much less of a chance of passing then, even apart from decision on marriage equality. With the SCOTUS having denied the appeal, bringing marriage equality to our district, I can only hope that their chances of pushing the amendment through in 2016 are virtually nonexistent.

I was born in Indiana... Indiana is my home and I am glad they are one of the most accepting US states so far! Especially for transgender, which even people who accept homosexuality have a hard time wrapping their head around. Good job Indiana!
