Cherry trees. Pine trees. (fir preferably) Maple trees. Oak trees. I like many kinds of trees. Although, there this one Ash tree in our backyard that I hate.
The Yew tree is my favourite, without a doubt. It's long-lived, poisonous and was used to make the mighty longbow.
Loblolly pine. Love the scent they give off. One of the reasons I really like the South. Also live oak, especially when they're covered in Spanish moss. As far as trees that are native to my area, I'd have to go with eastern hemlock or northern red oak.
I've always been drawn towards the weeping willow. I also like; the dragon tree, Ginkgo Bilbao (makes for very interesting bonsai), the money tree, maple, pine, birch, baobab, dessert rose, mulberry, rose of sharon, cherry, rainbow eucalyptus, etc. This one type of desert rose.
Probably Willow. Because there was a big willow tree in my schools field when I was a child. In the summer we were allowed to play in the field (or when we would sneak in when the school was closed). Sitting and playing under that Willow were some of the few times that I actually enjoyed school.
If I had to choose, I think it would be the coconut palm. It's such a big part of my parent's native culture, with so many uses. I think I would also choose Albizia ("Mimosa") or Delonix regia. The former are found in the US, including my home state, while the latter are found in tropical regions, including India.
Oh God, I thought I was the only one with a thing for Spanish moss. There is something so "Southern Gothic" about that combination that I love it. Mesquite trees are also special because we had one on our property and that damn tree took forever to chop down. I had some very sore muscles after tackling it for a full day with an ax. On the bright side, we had plenty of hardwood for BBQ .
Willows. They look interesting and they remind of some of my childhood. I rather like sumacs as well, for the same reasons. People tend to consider them more of a nuance though.
