Hey, I'm making this thread to ask what ECs favorite video game genre is. I know there are more genres, but most of them can fit under another one of these genres. For example if you like metroidvania games, pick Platformer. Note, there wasn't space for the mmo versions of each genre, so if you like an MMORPG the best pick RPG, if you like a MMORTS the best, pick RTS.
Roleplaying games are my favorite, but as one might determine from my avatar, MOBAs are a close second for me.
Oops one of them says strategy and RTS when it should say strategy, other. ---------- Post added 19th Oct 2014 at 11:55 PM ---------- Congratulations, you've won the thread. That was the correct answer.
in order of preference 1. RPGs, all time favorite genre~ 2. Action/Adventure 3. Horror 4. Tactical RPGs 5. Fighting 6. Arcade :3
So far, small n (n=23). But it's interesting that there is SO much skew toward RPGs. I wonder if it's because as LGBTQ people, we have such a desire to escape and be someone else. I am not sure I think it's sad, because I think roleplaying gives people a healthy way to act out their ideal selves. (Word to the wise, if your friends consistently play characters whose gender is not their biological sex, that means something.) Just something interesting I noticed...
*shrugs* Maybe, I mean that's pretty true for me but mostly I just enjoy the story telling in RPG games more than in any other genre. I honestly have a harder time playing games that are less story driven because I start getting bored and don't feel much of a drive to play them. But yes, in a lot of ways its the best kind of escape from normal life~! That's probably why I want to make my own RPGs so much... To tell my own story and share a grand experience into fantasy with the world! :3 Not always true really, I'm no prime example or anything but I've known guys who play female characters just because they'd rather be staring at something they consider cute while playing. At least that's what they told me! Who knows I guess!
Ah I see, fair enough ^^ (*hug*) Well, I'm not saying its not a fair indicator for evaluating yourself. If you feel happier playing the opposite gender then that probably does mean something! I was really only suggesting it is harder to judge your friends behavior with their choice in characters. In personal evaluation though that's probably a good testing ground for how you feel. I know I'm happier playing girls than boys in video games! I don't actually think I make male characters in video games at all anymore except to occasionally keep up appearances..... >>
RPGs... maybe I can say anything Bioware to be more exact. Cryptic comes close second. They have their moments in City of Heroes, Champions Online and Neverwinter Online. Turbine also has its way with stories on DDO. Not very familiar with LotR lore so I realized I was talking with guys from the movies on elf starting zone. :/
Can't agree with this... More like, we simply have the capacity to enjoy an RPG better, due to being more patient and understanding. And, who doesn't like drama! Also, it's far more common for people to "act" IRL, than it is for them to do so in video games. Played WoW long enough to know this... I mean, that moment when i had to choose between my dog dying (Fable 2), all those people dying or a million gold coins, i actually teared up a bit, i mean... dog or money?! And it's not like, i was escaping reality or something, it's just, fun. More fun than playing the same game over and over without any sense of progression or a feeling of accomplishment (i'm looking at you, LoL and DotA players). Escaping reality, has nothing to do with it...
