I wear glasses at the moment, but I'm considering switching to contacts because it's a pain to wear safety glasses over regular glasses. Also, for sports, contacts are much better. I didn't wear glasses during rugby and couldn't see a thing, and there were times during track and cross country I wish I had worn contacts as I couldn't see through my glasses due to snow, rain, or mud.
I wish I could switch to contacts. I have a pretty high prescription for glasses and whenever I wear them it is harder to pass (the lenses make my eyes look bigger and therefore make my face look more feminine), and I just like the way I look without them. But my eyes are very very sensitive, so I cannot wear contacts. So, because I do not like wearing my glasses (and never do, unless I'm watching a movie or must see something far away), I need new glasses every year.. I hope I don't end up needing them all the time
Glasses... They are one of my top things makes guy look hot list (with kilts and dark sweatpants/white socks combo). Ladies also look very sexy with it. Most important thing about glasses is finding the right one for your face. I used glasses back on high school years. I could never use contacts even if I wanted to (and believe me I did the colored ones) neither I nor anyone else was able to put those things into my eyes. I get that very disturbing feelings when any object gets close to my eyes.
I use both. Usually, I'll wear contacts on the weekends, and my glasses during the week, since my job consists of being on a computer the whole time, it becomes very strenuous on my eyes. It's not so much that I prefer one or the other, but I do have a permanent scratch on my cornea, so wearing contacts all the time could potentially be extremely painful for me. What I like about glasses is that they're easier to take on and off, and they don't strain my eyes. I don't like that my eyelashes get pushed up against them all the time, or the fact that I still have blind spots. Going from contacts to glasses, I've found I can't see things just by looking, you actually have to turn, which isn't that big of a deal anyway. What I like about my contacts is that I can just shift my eyes to see things I couldn't with glasses. Also, I can't even tell that I'm wearing them, you know, minus the fact that I'm no longer blind... What I don't like is that they're much more difficult to put in and take out, and that if I wear them too long or too often, they start to hurt. Of course, not everyone has that problem. Cost-wise, glasses are a safer bet, especially if your prescription isn't changing drastically. They may be more expensive up front, but in the long-run, you'll end up catching up costs with contacts.
I hate having to wear glasses! I tried getting contacts but I have astigmatism and the ones I would have to get are thicker than regular contacts and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get them in to save my life.
Thanks for all the responses. Perhaps I should get new frames but also contacts and wear them based on my mood. That is something I hadn't considered at all. One reason I may not be liking my glasses is that they are men's frames, not sure if there is much difference between mens and women's but that could also be a factor.
True but specialist toric lenses to correct these conditions are often expensive and I have found there is always some discomfort involved (lenses never seem to conform 100% perfectly when you have astigmatism). There are lots of varieties available. The most common are daily disposables (worn for one day and then thrown out) or monthly lenses (taken out each night and soaked in solution). You are correct there are lenses you can wear 24/7 for longer periods, but these are still quite uncommon and more expensive than either your standard daily or monthly lenses One interesting development are overnight corrective lenses (Ortho K is the main brand I believe). These are worn whilst sleeping only and taken out during the day. Overnight they mould the eye into the right shape to give a day's worth of perfect vision. Very cool but as you can imagine, quite pricey (around £300 a year I believe). I'd definitely give it a go when I have more money. I'm not a candidate for laser and don't get on with lenses so it seems like the perfect way to be "glasses free".
I've heard of these. Apparently they can improve your eyesight permanently if you wear them for long enough? I'm not sure if it's worth the expense but then again, it's better than finding out that your eyesight is getting worse and worse every year...
I wear glasses, and recently got a different style of frames which I actually enjoy the look of. I tried contacts for soccer, but find they are extremely painful for me to wear, and I've tried many styles and brands. They just aren't for me. However, since my vision is only bad in one eye I can get away with just not wearing my glasses which I find much more convenient.
I wear contacts exclusively and I have astigmatism. It took me two visits to the optometrist before I could actually get them in, but once I figured out to watch myself in the mirror rather than stare at my finger approaching it became easy. They do get dry and irritating on occasion, but I definitely wouldn't switch to glasses.
I wear glasses. My optician said I could try contact lenses but im too scared and flinch when I go to touch my eye.
I don't wear glasses or contact lenses but my dad was blind without his glasses then he got laser eye surgery now he doesn't have any problem.
My friend and her sister wear glasses normally but use lenses when they go to beach or they feel like it. You might give it a try. Also this is my own opinion but a rectangularish glasses will underline your natural beauty and make your face lovelier... tho this is my imagination. Just try and see. I am known for my wacky imagination. :lol*hug*)
I've worn glasses for a while now and I can't really imagine not wearing them. However I have tried out contacts once and it was both amazing and strange. Amazing in an omg-I-can-see way (lol the optometrist was amused at my exclamation of "Holy Crap- I can see you so clearly x3) but strange because I could feel something foreign in my eye (it was damned irritating, making my eyes water). Other than that, the experience was euphoric. I'm still gonna stick to my old G's though it's too much a part of me now.
Unfortunately I don't think thats the case. You may be able to leave them out longer with long term use, but the eye will always try to return to its natural state given time. (although there is some research that they may slow down the decline of eyesight). The way to view them is a bit like retainers for teeth post-braces. To begin with retainers must be worn 24/7. After so long they can be worn just for evenings, then can their use can be reduced somewhat further. Ultimately though without the retainer the teeth will move back to their original position and become crooked again.
Interesting. And the analogy makes perfect sense I don't know how I feel about laser eye surgery...I'd be worried about sneezing while they're doing their magic laser stuff with my eyes.
