A famous song from the old Bollywood film "The Burning Train". It is a qawwali, which was originally a Sufi Muslim devotional style.

Found this gem of a Carnatic (South Indian) concert showing a very unusual tuned set of ghatams (clay pot drums).

What about Yothu Yindi, they are world music, indigenous Aussie stuff with the didgeridoo and other instruments being used, yothu yindi are a wee bit more modern in terms of music than say Gondwana(a group I know little about).

Traditional Japanese music is lovely. I've been hearing a lot of it as I've taken up traditional Japanese dance

Also Chinese opera is nice too

I'd say I like Chinese music but I can ultimately trace my ancestry to China so it does not count.

    Indian and Celtic music, however...

^ I thought we were talking about traditional/cultural music.

I listen to many rock and a few old pop songs from Japan, but I don't see it as foreign. And even if so, it isn't "world music", by what I thought the term meant

True, I did post some of the more traditional music already and thought I would still want to share this one.

So here's one I recently discovered from India. Interestingly enough, the woman playing the sitar is Norah Jones's half sister, Anousha Shankar.

Don't have many contributions to make here (yet ) but here's Shakti, an Indian jazz fusion band led by John McLaughlin.

I've been in love with this video for a long time.

There's a Mongolian "long song" (the words are stretched), throat singing, solos, and even a contortionist half-way through.
