Which US State will be LAST to allow SSM?

I would say a southern state, Texas or Alabama?
The more conservative the lower down they're going to be.

 

Southwest Florida here, we're actually just about as north as you can get in the south.

NC will likely get same-sex marriage very soon. SC shares district 4 and may end up being dragged along, kicking and screaming, with the district 4 ruling. Though I expect the fight will take longer there.



The states in districts 5 will be the last, most likely. I think Florida will lead the charge and get district 7 up to speed in the near future.

Most likely, if there are any stragglers remaining in 5 years, the Supreme Court will rule in favor of same-sex marriage officially around then. They tend to wait until an overwhelming number of states are on one side of an issue before throwing their hat in. There were only 17 states left banning interracial marriage when the SCOTUS finally ruled on it.

 

Mississippi or Alabama. Texas will be one of the last but I think it will get SSM before those.

Texas isn't as conservative as people make it out to be. It definitely will be Louisiana, Alabama, or Mississippi.

Surprisingly, Puerto Rico falls under the more liberal First Circuit Court of Appeals. I wonder how their ban/lack of recognition of SSM would fare there? :lol:

True about Texas, but all statewide offices and both chambers in the Legislature are controlled by Republicans who will fight to protect the ban to the death. Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi will all go to the gay altar kicking and screaming , and will probably definitely have SSM by order of a federal court. I don't see a scenario where LA, TX, and MS have SSM at different dates because they are lumped in the 5th Circuit, that will probably uphold the ban (if not, by some miracle, then all those three states will have SSM simultaneously), but then one day fall at SCOTUS.

I might even bet you that TX, LA, MS and a few others will all have to legalize SSM on the same day.

 

I'd say Mississippi, Alabama or Louisiana.

I could even see them trying to block same sex marriage no matter what the supreme court says, much in the same ways they failed to segregate and resisted other civil rights rulings.

 

Attorney General Pamela Bondi in Florida is mind bent on fighting it. All Floridians should be proud to see thousands of their tax dollars being wasted on an issue that is destined to be defeated.

I'd bet my entire life savings it's a state below the Mason Dixon Line. Mississippi, Louisiana or Alabama would be likely candidates. Texas has already had a ban overturned but it's in appeals now.

My bet is either on South Arolina or Mississippi. Mississippi has always been really conservative, but South Carolina has always been a do whatever they want, not even care type of state as history has proved. those two will be a close tie i think.

 

MS, AL, or LA, probs.
I'm inclined to say GA, but a lot of the younger republicans here seem to be either more indifferent or more logically-minded. At least, they're starting to admit that there are no real legal reasons to keep it from passing.

Circuit-wise, I'll say 5th -- TX, MS, AL.
