The only problem I feel, with furry culture, being a firm believer in the scientific method as the basis for facts, is when people anthropomorphize creatures and then suggest that in spirit they are those creatures. Totally totally impossible from a physical standpoint at least. It is one thing to be similar or analogous to something - this can be useful for context and communication - but that you 'are' one of these animals... Show me a non-human that can communicate much less use a computer. I have a friend that identifies as furry and ok, whatever floats your boat, but it seems just like believing in spirits and such from old religious revivalism. edit: Here I am using the term 'just'. Sigh. But I do mean that I do not get it unless you mean only an analogous sense when you say (whomever may) that you are 'otherkin'.
um, you do realize they're just anthropomorphised animals right? Also, most forms of furry media exist as works of art. In fact zoomorphic sculptures and paintings/drawings have existed since the Paleolithic era. And to further elaborate on your point concerning "old religious revivalism"- most pagan religions ascribe bestial features unto their deities because they appreciated and associated such animalistic aspects with the divine. Main thing is... they're not real. They're WORKS OF FICTION. Super heroes are not real (last time I checked, anyway) but people still enjoy reading comics or watching movies about them... Heck, superheroes are constantly being sexualized as well.
No no no I mean people that actually say 'I am a wolf inside' and mean it. That is what I don't get, stuff like that.
Well, I call myself a furry, but I don't believe I'm an actual furry  But if I was a furry, I would wanna be a cat... thinks of khajits in Skyrim -drools-
Kai, there's a Bonobo that can play PAC-MAN! I get what you're saying, but there have been animals taught to communicate with humans very well.
not really my thing, but as long as any acts are concentual and no one gets hurt, go for it. and that applies to anything.
Thanks to EC, I now know what a furry is. I always thought it was a teen or young adult who was hairier than average. I guess not.
I enjoy the fantasy aspect of furrydom, but I don't think I'd ever do anything in a fursuit...or with somebody in a fursuit. I've worked a furry convention before, though, and had an awesome time. The attendees were really cool. Lex
Yeah, I agree with lex. I like furry art, and to some extent furry culture, but I'm really not into fursuits, etc.
If only, if only... But there's a great deal more to it than that. I do have a form-fitting latex husky bodysuit/mask/paws, though I can't see having sex in a fursuit. I mean, just the dry-cleaning bills would be ridiculous! I'd wear a fursuit to a con, but for sex, they seem impractical. And there is a lot more to the fandom than the sexual aspects...really, they're just a small part, all in all, just like sex is for most everybody. I mean, I don't know many people who just go around having sex most of the time
I believe in the scientific method too but, as much as i don't believe in the spirit idea, be VERY carefull when using the words "totally impossible" and "science/scientific" in the same sentence. :icon_wink --- I like the idea of fursuits, but ya, too expensive.
Stocking, basically furry culture is mostly online, art, stories, webcomics, etc. anything to do with anthropomorphic animals and people who like them. Even anthropomorphic animals in various sci-fi and fantasy stories and games can be considered furries. As I said, I don't really get the fursuits thing and things like it, but I do enjoy some furry art.
Ohhh hh, I get it ,makes more sense, I thought I was a furry because I had a a fantasy of dressing up like a kitty and bunny . Like just wearing the ears and play boy bunny outfit.
I'm not one, per se, though I do enjoy their stories and artwork online at times. It's the fantasy aspect; a way to get away, and like someone else said, it seems there's a bit of diversity and acceptance within the community. It's funny: I tend to get more emotional and find myself relating to fictional characters more often than with "real life" events and media.
Lol, we all have our share of fetishes and fantasies. Some of us, more than our share. It's perfectly normal.
