I came out to my estranged dad today

I have a strained/estranged relationship with my father, too. I have seen him once since late summer 2007, even though he lives maybe an hour away. I have honestly thought that perhaps I won't be coming out to him except via something like a wedding announcement one day...

Oh my god, I'm just crying right now. I haven't spoken to my mother in years and barely to my father cause they were just so awful to me, especially my mother.

I can't imagine telling my dad, cause at least we talk. It's too often about how fucked up his right wing conservative politics are, but it's some connection.

Congratulations! It was nice that he was so accepting of you, you are very lucky.
My dad has formed a new family in another country and doesn't make an effort to even contact me or us his kids for that matter so I don't see why I would have to tell him I mean I have made an effort to contact him he just ignores me so I'm done, but you are very lucky to have such an accepting father don't take it for granted because what I wouldn't give to have a father like yours.

Congrats! I lurk around here a lot, don't really comment much, and I'm really happy for all you've accomplished . I've yet to do this with my dad, we're not really on speaking terms either.

I've thought about just telling them both, just for me. Even just as a little eff you, cause that's how little I'd like their opinions of me to matter.

Im proud (and envious) of all the progress you have made. Hopefully this can be a start to a new relationship with your dad. I never was close with mine and didnt see or hear from him for 12 years until i heard he had cancer. We kind of reconciled for the few months until he died.
