I think Jesus would be a Socialist, "blessed be the poor" etc.

    Probably this.

Based on what I've read I'd imagine, if anything, he'd be nearing the bottom left-hand of this:

I feel like Matthew 4:23-25, 5:3, 5:7, 5:21-26, 5:38-48, 6:19-34, 7:2-12, 7:21-23, 10:9-11, 11:16-19, 11:28-29, and 12:1-13 are enough to rule out the vast majority of the right. Beyond that, I can't tell ya. But based on Matthew 12:25, I'd assume he'd be pretty against today's politics anyhow.

Jesus would be like "shit's messed up" and take no current popular political platform

White Baby Jesus, however, would be a hardcore far right conservative who makes it a personal goal to save all the aborted babies and shame women, and men, and humans in general while fucking over the non-working and poor

Just a point, the Democrats are hardly mid-left.

Christ, I think, would not support any party. Christ would be, in a modern context, a populist socialist, maybe even revolutionary depending on where (why the hell would he reappear in the US?). Christ wasn't exactly soft according to the Bible (some violence against financiers being pretty important in his representation). I think he would be a firm leftist (probably not communist, but not liberal, either), believing in strong leadership. I even have doubt that he (were he to be "reincarnated") would even be particularly democratic. I think he'd be pretty merciless in some of his criticism.

But of course, Christ no longer lives, and what we know of him is an approximation of an approximation.

I hope the people who think Jesus would be right-wing, in any sense of the concept, were trolling.

Aren't Jesus and god the same entity in some bizzare circular logic?
So on one hand, give to the poor, don't be selfish, etc. etc.
And on the other hand, if some people make you mildly irritated, flood the entire planet and kill every human and every non-marine animal.

Sounds like a typical politician making contradictory promises to both sides during an election year.

It depends on which denomination. The Catholics tend to be very firm on the "trinity", but the Protestant churches tend to believe that God and Jesus are entirely separate entities. I know nothing of the Orthodox Churches.

Historical Jesus or hysterical Jesus? The one who probably existed was described as you would a modern day hippie. So pretty far left.

I don't really think Jesus wouldn't care about politics. He would be spending most of his time spreading the word of God, so he'd either have no party or be in an independent one. But if I had to guess, his views would either be "Compassionate Conservative" or "Moderate Liberal", depending on his economic views. Let's face it. No matter where he hypothetically lies on the political spectrum, Jesus would definitely be very compassionate and kind-hearted. And it's unlikely that he'd be far anything...

    Interesting thread.

It seems like most mainstream and conservative Christian churches here in the US are insistent on the Triune God. But it's probably possible to find people in at least the more liberal mainstream churches that would take a different view.

More liberal groups might well reject the Trinity, but they would account for very little of the church membership in the US.

One thing's for sure: He wouldn't join the 'Tea Party'.

And he'd fight against the Koch brothers.

Jesus didn't care about the Romans' system, why would he care about ours? He'd be too busy in the soup kitchens etc. Apolitical.

Indeed. Which means if he was in charge and wanted to forgive us, he could just sacrifice himself to himself again to forgive us for the mistakes he condemned us too in the first place.

Wait, that doesn't make any sense. Well, that's the whole concept of Christianity for you. Fortunately, Jesus will never return and have any political allegence as the character as portrayed in the bible, is just fiction anyway.

    Happy days
