Thomas Mann, 'The Magic Mountain'. Phew, talk about a dark, morose work; set in a tuberculous sanitarium high in the Swiss Alps, this was meant to be a more lighthearted response to his novella, "Death in Venice". Which it may be, but on page 300 of 700, that lightness is starting to weigh a good deal! But thus far excellent; have always meant to read this, and finally finding the time.

What am I reading? This forum post obviously.

This is the school year. I only have time to read books for school. I will have plenty of time to read after I graduate.

I'm very curious to know how you like it -- I've read Ender's Game, the Shadow series, Ender in Exile, and am halfway through Speaker for the Dead. I'm definitely going to read through the rest of the main story line, but am unsure about whether to go for the prequels or not.

Being and Nothingness by Jean-Paul Sartre. Its not at all what I usually read, and it seems like its just going to get more complex. I don't know how much I'll end up liking it, but I'm determined to try and get as far as I can.

You're one brave Panda! I've always meant to tackle that, someday...made it maybe 10 pages once! I'd love to hear what you make of it.

But I have read Robert Musils, 'The Man Without Qualities', twice...and that was maybe 1,700 pages of some very odd, intense stuff, but which had such a strange appeal to me...set in Austria, just before the war.

I'm not really much of a book reader...but when I find one I like I really enjoy reading it. I currently just started reading Life Of Pi!

I liked reading Death in Venice and have been meaning to start reading The Magic Mountain but always seem to get side tracked with something else.

    Would you recommend Musil's novel?

I'll be sure to tell you what I think of it. Its actually a friend's book, his father took a philosophy course in college or something and has a lot of books. It has some annotating, making it easier to outline key points; but there aren't many of those.

I might check out that book you're talking about, sounds interesting, but I'm already planning on reading Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky after Being and Nothingness. So many books, so little time:help:

I barely read. Reading for me is extreme boredom unless it is a really good book to my standards.By the way my standards are if the book makes me read on.I know everybody may say that this is what a good book is bit for me it has to make me crazily read on that I nearly have half the book finished in a few hours with my eyes nearly strained! Also in my opinion the book needs to move me in a very certain way which is not too surprising but not too given away. I may be boring you by saying this but I just like to express my views as I am a very debative person.

My recent book I read was the second book of the divergent series.I didn't read the first one first because I assumed that because I saw the movie I didn't need to read that book first.I am not totally finished reading the second book because I got quite a bit lazy a the boon started to drag and I really wanted a resolution and conclusion.

I also started reading The Enders Game but that's not finished also. Its nearly finished but at this stage I would hve to start again because I forget most of it.

Currently about to embark on reading the second book in the Divergent trilogy. Really looking forward to it!

Just finished reading 'The Time Keeper' by Mitch Albom. Its about the how the inventor of the world's first clock is punished for trying to measure time. He is banished into a cave for centuries and forced to listen to those pleading for more years for themselves. Its a really thought provoking book so I won't say any more. I highly recommed it~

More Thomas Mann: Doctor Faustus, this time. A bit dense/tightly woven, but has some wonderful passages.
