What Are You Reading?

Ah, so it's scattered throughout the novel. That's not so bad, so long as I know where it ends (Haha.) You're right, Kafka doesn't seem to be an author concerned with explanation, so oddly enough it helps the unfinished nature of his work. Even the shorter stories and fragments.

I've not read any of those three, yet, but a number of others. My favorites so far are probably 'A Country Doctor' and 'The Village Schoolmaster.' Love how tense, ominous his writing is without, strictly speaking, being "horror" writing.

 

As well, can see that Kafka's humor is in a dry, black, Central/Eastern European sort of way so perhaps even less obvious to someone outside of the culture whether reading the original or a translation.

Thanks, will look into 'The Judgment' at some point. Read Hunger Artist yesterday evening and liked it, though not as much as the others mentioned.

 

I've just finished "The Great Gastby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I loooooved it more than I could ever expect. ^-^'

Now, I just have to choose another book out of my endless "To Read" list. Any recommendations? :help:

Just to give you a general idea of what books I preffer, my favorites are the "Harry Potter" series, the "Hunger Games" series, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", "How I Live Now" and "The Fault In Our Stars".

 

Mockingjay and I'm almost done. I had a ton of spoilers from my sister before reading it but I still want to know what happens. Before The Hunger Games, I had never really red any other book in my life. Books bored me but The Hunger Games is just simply amazing!!

 

The diary of a nobody- by George and Weedon Grossmith

 

I've heard that one is supposed to be good, and funny if I'm not mixing things up. Enjoying it?

 

Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky. After reading two Austen novels, I felt like something a bit darker and uncomfortable.

 

I loved reading Watchmen by Alan Moore.

Currently I'm reading A Clash Of Kings by George RR Martin, although I put that on pause when I started Grad School.

 

Well, I just finished Kafka on the Shore. Strangest, most surreal, most confusing novel I've ever read. I probably have over 100 questions that I want answered and never will get answered. Boy. That is frustrating...

Currently slogging through Rousseau's Social Contract and Discourses on Inequality to see if I missed anything

 

New York by Edward Rutherfurd. Great book so far. It's a little easier to follow than Paris since he wrote it in chronological order rather than jumping around through hundreds of years' worth of history, but I miss all the French names!

 

I just finished The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and now I'm reading 1984 by George Orwell.

 

Catolina and Animal Farm are better imo

I've been reading The Escape by David Baldacci. It's actually pretty good. It's about two brothers who both belong in the military. One is sent to a high security military prison for treason under curious circumstances and then breaks out two years later. The other brother is then tasked with tracking him down. I think its actually part of a series called John Puller. Anyways, yeah if you need a mystery/thriller to read you should try it!

 

A few short stories from a master of the weird and macabre, Arthur Machen.

 

I'm currently about two-thirds through 'A Feast For Crows' by George R.R. Martin.

 

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. One of the many books I've yet to finish in my personal reading list.
