When I was young my dad and I caught some fish. I watched him clean them. It was a bit grisly. They tasted very good after being fried.
Fish and Frogs. I hate eating Frog legs to me they taste gross. But I love eating certain types of fish, I have caught Bass and Catfish.
I've fished and hunted waterfowl. But not in the last 20 or so years have I shot waterfowl. I used to hunt with a friend of the family. I'm not a good shot and as much as I like duck and goose, I hate the job of cleaning them. I mostly went to bird watch. The cold mornings don't thrill me either. Thank goodness for the specialty meat market around here. I'd have a tough time butchering a lamb for Easter, but lamb chops are tasty. I've no problem with animals raised for food or fur, however, I don't approve of trapping, hunting, or clubbing animals just for their pelts. Humanely slaughtered animals raised for consumption as food or warmth I've no issue with.
Grew up in a farm like setting. Killed my first deer at age 8 and learned how to skin and prep rabbits, chickens, & fish
I've been parting of beating and beheading the fish after we caught them. We ate them later. I don't eat meat anymore, but that fish did taste better than the stuff bought from Canberra fish markets (then again, all fish in Finland tastes better for some reason)
You killed the fluffy 'lil bunny! (kidding) I really do like rabbit, now that I've had it a few times, and know how to cook it. It's pretty amazing, lean and has a great flavor. I was reading in the New York Times that in pre-WW2 times, it used to be as popular as Chicken, but in the post war era, as factory chicken farming kicked into gear, it receded into the background. Maybe Bugs Bunny made it less popular as well They have rabbit at the farmer's market, all prepped and ready, loins, whole and saddles, which makes it much easier for me.
I love fishing and shooting guns but hunting never really appealed to me. I have cleaned and eaten more fish than I care to count. Pulling a blue gill (type of brim) out of the water, knock it senseless, make a small cut behind the head, insert finger and pull (removes head and guts in one quick move), scale it, and put it on a sharp stick over a camp fire. In 10 minutes time it went from swimming to dinner. It just doesn't get any fresher than that! I used to fillet catfish and do them the same way but one day I was sitting on a rock eating and saw the rest of the fish looking at me with its gills flapping. It occurred to me that the poor thing was sitting there watching me eat it (don't know if was just reflexes or if wasn't quite dead yet). Now I just don't have the heart to eat catfish on the bank anymore.... Take them home and eat them hell yea, on the bank no.
An pal of mine once killed a squirrel with a homemade bow, and fried up the meat for dinner. This is how the country kids do. Verdict was that it was kinda stringy/chewy and not worth the bother.
Hunting is extremely common where I am from, everyone hunts back home. Just how things have always been.
I voted other. I once went on a hunting trip as part of my article for a nature mag with a local tribe here and we got monitor lizards and pythons for lunch. I personally love reptiles but to experience being part of their culture i needed to shed some animal blood.
I ate some bluefish I caught while deep sea fishing on the CT coast. I do know some people who do hunt deer and eat it, like my grandfather and uncle. I had a friend that shot deer with a bow and arrow and ate it. I also had goose that was hunted, but I wasn't the one who killed it. I wound up spitting out bullets while eating that goose, haha.
