I couldn't get into No Blues at first either but it grew on me after playing it a few more times. It's actually really good.

    and YES you should!

I'm ashamed to admit I don't know half of the artists you mentioned. Also, had no idea jj released new work it's been ages since I listened to their stuff. Guess I have some work to do as well

5)El-P & Killer Mike - Run The Jewels

    10)Deltron 3030 - Event II

Quite a lot of rap. Have been quite disappointed with 2013 in general, although I've still got a lot to listen to.

Agreed. Although, not saying you, but it's funny how many people are fawning over Disclosure since pitchfork decided they were good, when they probably would have dismissed Latch as shitty radio pop six months earlier.

Oh well, here's my shitty radio pop top 10, excluding Get Lucky and Blurred Lines for obviousness.
    1)Duke Dumont - Need U (100%)
    2)Ben Pearce - What I Might Do
3)Chris Malinchak - So Good To Me
    4)Disclosure - White Noise
5)Storm Queen - Look Right Through (MK Remix)

I'm definitely guilty of that in some cases (Robyn, oops, and perhaps Justin Timberlake too) but I actually only found out about Disclosure when Latch came on on the radio last year and I instantly fell in love having no idea who they were. I somehow missed all the hype building up to their breakthrough. White Noise was awesome too, but You & Me somehow managed to blow them both out the water. They're by far the artist I've played most this year who've actually released music this year.

p.s. what did you think of Yeezus? It's just that it's not on your list, and considering what else is I'm surprised.

You've just reminded me that Still Corners exist. Fireflies is such an underrated track; it makes me cry </3

Oh I'm not pretending I was into Disclosure before Latch started getting played on the radio last year, just that no 'serious' music fans took them seriously at this point until they released an album which got critical praise, now everyone loves them. Just annoys me how people look down on anything that gets played on the radio unless it has pitchfork's approval, when there's stuff just as good as Disclosure getting played on Kiss FM or whatever all the time. Anyway enough whining  You & Me is great but I still reckon I prefer the other two singles, the rest of the album is ok but quite forgettable besides a few tracks, Fire Starts to Burn is decent.

Oh I was so hyped for Yeezus but I barely even like it which is so annoying. To me a lot of it barely even sounds like hip hop, more like Death Grips style shouting, and some of the tracks where he uses autotune I find almost unlistenable, like Blood On The Leaves I just find horrible. Hopefully it'll be like 808's and he'll realise he made a mistake and just start rapping again, it's not like I'm expecting him to make College Dropout again but anything close to any of his other albums, except 808's, will do.

Also, this didn't really affect how much I enjoyed it, but Kanye is just a horrible human being these days, some of the interviews he's given this year are ridiculous, so arrogant. And it confuses me when people say he's a good social commentator, not really his race politics are messed up and I swear he has no clue what he's talking about almost all the time, I don't see how anyone would take him seriously. So yeah he's a dickhead, wouldn't stop me from listening though if only he made something decent.

I should've put these in my list.

I have to say, this year wasn't a great year for me and albums--the only album I downloaded in full was Icon for Hire's self-titled album. The way this year was big for me was that I discovered a lot of albums from the past few years before 2013 that I really, really love. I also liked the American Top 40 this year way more than I have in previous years. Sure, there was plenty to hate ("Blurred Lines" stands out), but I overall, I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by pop music this year.

No real lists, but here are my half-baked musings on this year's music:

2013 was a good year for pop, compared to 2012. 2007 still sticks out as the most memorable (not necessarily in terms of quality) year, but that's just my childhood nostalgia (Christ on the cross that was probably the most difficult thing to type ever) coming through. Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Eminem, and Daft Punk made great comebacks this year.

Some stuff got stale real fast. Blurred Lines was kinda fun the first couple times 'till it became the most played single of this summer. It was one of those songs you just couldn't avoid no matervwgere you went. Unfortunately, it was the summer I spent with my ratchet cousins, so I'll inevitably connect that song with that wonderful week :rolle: It's like last year with fun., or '07 with Sweet Escape and some club song called Castles in the Sky (eughhhh :bang:slight_smile:. Those last two have the same effect on me that Shake It Up has on my dad

Also, lots of pseudo-retro singles. Suit and Tie, Get Lucky, Locked Out of Heaven, and Treasure (the latter two I initially had a hard time believing they weren't from the 80s). Blurred Lines also had a 90s vibe to it, too. Dunno what was up with that, but it was better than the pseudo-duh step David Guetta BS that inundated 2011 and 2012. Dumb Internet songs sadly returned, but not for long. Thank god (!)

After downloading some new songs, including some I didn't know were released this year, I have enough to put together a list of my favorite songs of 2013. It's going to be a top 11 because all good things music related should go up to 11.

    9. "Counting Stars" - OneRepublic
    8. "Fix Me" - Icon For Hire
    7. "Cynics & Critics" - Icon For Hire
    6. "Chainsaw" - The Band Perry
    5. "She Keeps Me Warm" - Mary Lambert
    4. "Dance Apocalyptic" - Janelle Monáe
    3. "Yung Rapunxel" - Azealia Banks
    2. "Rock and Roll Thugs" - Icon For Hire
    1. "Primetime" - Janelle Monáe feat. Miguel
